This Week's Worship

This week's worship was led beautifully by Natalia and Leo. They focused on this week's Gospel reading, in which Jesus seeks out the first of his disciples to follow him. They reflected on the ways in which can put our trust in Jesus, the same way his disciples did.

This Week's Learning

In Maths our focus has been on calculating the volume of cubes and cuboids. We used cubes to make cuboids with different volumes and to prove that the length x width x height will give us the volume (see pictures below). We then moved on to statistics, reading and interpreting line graphs.

In English we have spent the week writing our independent narrative. We then used our purple pens to make any edits to improve the quality of our written work.

In PE we have nearly completed our dance routine. We have practiced the individual parts and started to put it all together. By next week, we are hoping to invite another class to come and watch our dance performance.

In Science we planned and then did an investigation. Our aim was to find out with surfaces were the best reflectors of light. We made a light catcher, using a torch and card, and then held each surface 15cm away from our catcher. We then observed how much light was reflected back on the card and recorded our results. Next week we will write up our conclusions.

In Music this week Mrs Owen continued this half term's unit based around the Pharrell Williams song, 'Happy'. In this week's lesson they played glockenspiels to the music.

In RE this week we explored the authorial intent of the four Gospels, before focusing in more detail on John's Gospel. Unlike Mathew, Mark and Luke's Gospel, which are synoptic, John's Gospel delved deeper into who Jesus really is and his divinity. This week we look at John's recount of the Wedding at Cana and what this shows us about Jesus.

In Art we were inspired by the art of Romero Britto to create our own piece of wroship art. We linked it in with our RE learning of John's Gospel and Jesus' divinity. In our lesson todat we sketched the outline of our piece of art and next week we will apply oil pastels.

SATs rotation groups

This week we had our third SATs rotation. For the whole of Wedneadau morning each group spent 1 hour focusing on one of the three SATs areas: maths, reading and GPS. Myself, Mrs Owen and Mr Duffy are really pleased with the engagement of the class during these sessions and the progress we are seeing. We will continue to plan in at least one SATs rotation per week.

Notices

  • PE days are Wednesdays and Thursday this half term.
  • Reading books -  Please do keep up with home reading as this will help to see that progress with each Star Reading test taken. We do want the children to challenge themselves with their home readers too, so please do let me know if you ever think the book they are reading at home is perhaps not challenging enough.
  • Homework- Please can you remind your child at home about their homework, which is always due for Thursday morning. I noticed this week that many children in the class had not completed any of their online learning when I checked on Wednesday, leaving them with just one evening to complete it all. Sadly, even after a text reminder, there were still some children who did  not complete all of their homework.
  • Contact information- We no longer access the year group email (year6@…) If you need to contact me for any reason, and cannot catch me at the door, feel free to either pop an email to the admin address (with Year 6 in the subject box) or give the school a ring.

Online Safety at Our Lady's

At Our Lady's we like to support our parents/carers in Online Safety matters.

Keeping children and young people safe online is one of the biggest challenges facing society today and it is all of our responsibility to ensure that children are educated to make positive, informed choices when they are online.

This month’s online safety guide gives helpful advice about…

What Parents and Educators Need to Know about Mental health misinformation online This #WakeUpWednesday guide explores how adults can support children and young people to recognise and challenge mental health misinformation online.

We hope you find these guides informative and helpful in promoting the positive use of technology to make the online world a better and safer place for us all. Thank you.
