Last Sunday, the 3rd Sunday of Advent, we lit the rose candle, a symbol of joy. Christmas reminds us: God became man in Jesus. Through Him, we learn to live with love & mercy. Every act of kindness shares the true gift of Christmas.

This Sunday will mark the fourth week of Advent. We light the final purple candle to mark the final week of prayer and penance as we wait for the birth of our Saviour. The 4th Sunday of Advent symbolises Peace with the “Angel’s Candle” reminding us of the message of the angels: “Peace on Earth, Good Will Toward Men.”

What a wonderful end to a great term!
It’s been a week of fun: on Monday we were at the pantomime, Tuesday we were treated to KS1’s Nativity, on Thursday, in KS2, we watched Sadler’s Wells’ version of The Little Match Girl, and then we had our KS2 Advent Service in church. Thank you so much if you were able to join us.

Today, we rounded off this term with a film and popcorn to celebrate all their hard work...

I am so proud of Year 5. It has been such a pleasure to get to know your children this term – they are all lovely, have worked so hard, and have already come on so much. Well done, Year 5!

Our award winners:

Golden Award (RESPECT) - George

Our Golden Ticket winners…

During this half term, all children have been awarded a golden ticket for each three times they have read this term. Today, during our Golden Award celebration assembly, each class drew a golden ticket winner and our Golden Ticket winner for reading this half term was Finlay for Year 5. Along with the other winners, they have won a prize which has kindly been donated by the PTFA. Well done Finlay!

Our Reading champions

Well done to our reading champions this half term, who all completed bookmarks for reading regularly at home - some children have even completed two! Let’s see if next half term we can see more reading champions. Don’t forget to keep up with your reading regularly and get your diaries signed.

Our learning this week…

In English, the children have been writing their formal report. They’ve worked hard on including their writing targets.

In maths we have continued to work on equivalent fractions.

In RE, the children have been reflecting on the Good Shepherd.

This week’s prayer and liturgy was planned and led by Matilda and Jacob. In their liturgy, we heard about John the Baptist who was in prison and wondered if Jesus was really the special person God promised. Jesus told John about the good things He was doing, like helping people and bringing hope. This shows us that sometimes we have questions about God, and that’s okay. Jesus is always with us, helping and loving us. We reflected on how Jesus shows His love to everyone.

Jesus helps us even when we have questions or feel unsure. He is always loving and caring for us. Let’s try to notice His love every day.

“I will send my messenger ahead of you,
who will prepare your way before you.”

Matthew 11:10

In PE the children are working with PE specialist Max from Blackpool Football Club Community Trust. The focus of PE this half term is tennis.

At Our Lady's we like to support our parents/carers in Online Safety matters.

Keeping children and young people safe online is one of the biggest challenges facing society today and it is all of our responsibility to ensure that children are educated to make positive, informed choices when they are online.

This month’s online safety guide gives helpful advice about…

What Parents & Educators Need to Know about AI toys. AI-powered toys can be both exciting and educational, but they also raise new questions about data privacy, safety, and how children learn.

We hope you find these guides informative and helpful in promoting the positive use of technology to make the online world a better and safer place for us all. Thank you.
