The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month marks the signing of the Armistice – an agreement to end the First World War. Year 5 spent time thinking about all those people in the armed forces who have sacrificed so much to protect their country and we made our own poppies . On Tuesday morning, like the rest of the country, we learnt about this special event and we held a two minutes silence as a sign of respect.
Thank you to all those who were able to share in our Year 5 and Year 6 Remembrance liturgy yesterday. We were so proud of all our readers and how reverent the children were. Thank you for joining us.
Anti-Bullying Week: Power for Good
This week, we have been marking Anti-Bullying Week with the theme “Power for Good.” Through our class novel, Wonder by R.J. Palacio, we explored what it truly means to use our power to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Our discussions focused on how small acts of kindness can have a lasting impact, echoing one of the book’s key messages: “If you can be anything, be kind.”
To celebrate this idea, the children created a thoughtful poster illustrating how kindness can create ripples—spreading positivity, empathy, and respect throughout our classroom and beyond.
Our award winners:

Our learning this week…
In English, we’ve been learning more about the activities that the astronauts did during their expedition to the moon. The children have been writing in role creating kit lists and they have written a descriptive piece from an astronaut’s point of view, describing an activity undertaken on the moon.
Our focus in maths has been prime, square and cube numbers.
In RE, we have recapped our work from last half term and have been learning and writing newspaper reports about the battle between David and Goliath.
This week’s prayer and liturgy was planned and led by Layla and Leo. In the Bible reading, Jesus finds people using the temple in the wrong way, buying and selling things instead of praying and worshiping God. Jesus wants us to remember that places where we pray are special, and that we should keep our hearts and actions focused on God. The Layla and Leo asked the children to think about how we can show respect for God in our lives. Just like Jesus wanted the temple to be a holy and peaceful place, we can help make our own special places—and our hearts—places where God feels welcome and loved.
Just like the one man who came back to thank Jesus, we can remember to say thank you too. When we are thankful, we become more joyful and more aware of God’s goodness in our lives.

“They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?” But the temple he had spoken of was his body. After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken.”
John 2:13-22
In geography, the children have been using atlases to identify places in the North, Central and South America.
In Spanish the children have learnt to say when their birthday is.
In PSHE we have been learning about the zones of regulation and the strategies children can use to enable the children to stay within the green zone.
In PE the children are working with PE specialist Max from Blackpool Football Club Community Trust. The focus of PE this half term is tennis.

At Our Lady's we like to support our parents/carers in Online Safety matters.
Keeping children and young people safe online is one of the biggest challenges facing society today and it is all of our responsibility to ensure that children are educated to make positive, informed choices when they are online.
This month’s online safety guide gives helpful advice about…
What Parents & Educators Need to Know about AI generated videos. This online safety guide explores AI-generated videos, and the dangers they pose to young people, including deepfakes, misinformation, and manipulation.
We hope you find these guides informative and helpful in promoting the positive use of technology to make the online world a better and safer place for us all. Thank you.
