Good afternoon everyone,
It has been lovely to welcome the children back at the start of a very busy, but very exciting half term. This week, we focused upon the beatitudes that Jesus taught during the Sermon on the Mount. We learned how doing these things - which can often seem like weaknesses in our world - help us to be happier and prepare us for being ready for heaven. Father Frank led us in a wonderful Mass on Thursday to explain this.

English - This week, we have looked at clues for our next story. We used these clues to make predictions and inferences about events and characters in our mystery story.
Maths - In Maths we have continued with addition and subtraction. Our focus has been upon mental addition and subtraction, making 10 to make addition easier, using number lines and recalling our number bonds.
Science - During Science, we attended the Culture Festival.
RE - We learned about the annunciation of John the Baptist to his Father Zechariah. We wrote a letter from Zechariah explaining how he felt.
History - During History, we attended the Culture Festival.
PE - In our indoor PE, we focused on bouncing a ball to improve our basket ball skills.

We are all taking our reading quiz and this has given us a book level (known as ZPD). This allows us to give the children reading books which are at the best level for them in regards to both word reading but also their ability to remember and explain what they have read. We will do these reading quizzes at the beginning and end of every half term.
Please read as often as possible at home. It is the most important piece of work you can do with your child to support their learning.

Please ensure that you sign your child’s reading records as they can have a sticker on their book mark for each day that they read to an adult at home. Once the book mark is full the children will receive a certificate. Also Mrs Bowdell will give out a Golden Ticket every third time your child’s record is signed. These will be added to a draw done at the end of the half term with the chance to find a book themed prize. The more tickets you have in the draw, the more chance you have of winning a prize!!
