Remembrance Week....

In Year 6 this week we honoured the 2 minutes silence at 11 o'clock on Tuesday 11th November. This was a time for us to reflect and pray from all those affected by wars past and present. In class we also made paper poppies and wrote a remembrance prayer on the stem, which we used as part of our Remembrance liturgy on Thursday. We also made some poppy art using acrylic paint. We watched a tutorial on how to paint these poppies and the artwork the class produced was truly beautiful! On Thursday, Year 5 & 6 led a Remembrance liturgy for parents in the hall. They delivered this so respectfully. Thank you to all of you who could join us. Please take a look at the pictures below to see Remembrance week for yourself...

This Week's Learning

In Maths this week we have continued with converting metric units of measurements to solve reasoning questions. We then looked at how to convert between a metric and an imperial unit of measurement: miles and kilometres. We used the fact that 8km is roughly 5 miles to help us solve problems.

In English we watched the video clip of the cyclone from the opening clip of The Wizard of Oz. We then used our descriptosaurus to identify any words/phrases/sentences that described the cylone before picking our our favourites. We used this to help us plan and draft a cyclone poem in free verse. We personified the cyclone by writing in first person and the outcome of this was impressive! Once we have finished writing up our final drafts, I will send a copy home for you to have a read yourselves!

In RE we focused on some of the key women from the Bible. We gathered information on some of these women and put this into a booklet all about these women and what they did.

In PE with me this week we started our gymnastics unit. We started the lesson by familiarising ourselves with the different types of balances, rolls and jumps. We then used this to create individual gymnatstic sequences that included at least one of each.

In Science this week we started a new unit on 'Classification'. We used Haribo sweets to help us to better understand how to classify (sort) things into groups. Each pair was given an assortment of sweets and they had to use yes or no questions to get each sweet on their own. Next week, we will apply this skill to creating an animal classification key.

In HRSE we had a lesson on anti-bullying. We watched a live lesson on anti-bullying from the BBC Bitesize. We then were given different scenarios and had to write down what we thing 'bystanders' should do in each of these to stand up to bullying.
