This week’s prayer and liturgy was planned and led by Alistair and Jessie, thinking about faith — even just a little bit — and about doing the right thing, not because we want praise, but because it's what God asks us to do. In the Bible reading, Jesus tells us that even a tiny bit of faith can do big things, and that we should serve others humbly, without expecting a reward. The children listened carefully and thought about how they can live with faith and serve others with kind hearts.

Even small acts of faith and kindness matter to God. When we do what’s right without needing praise, we’re following Jesus’ example. Let’s try to live with mustard-seed faith and humble hearts.

“Increase our faith!”

Year 5’s mission into the world of engineering!

On Thursday, Year 5 were really lucky to have taken part  in a STEM challenge, Road to RIAT: Space mission, in association with the Royal Air Force and Smallpeice.

During the challenge, Year 5 became real-life engineers with the aim of designing, building, and testing rockets using simple materials and ideas. The children worked well as a team, using what they learned during the livestream that we watched, to explore how rockets are designed and launched. Once built, they had great fun testing their designs, seeing what works best, and making improvements along the way - just like real engineers do.

Take a look at how much fun they had…

Our learning this week…

In English we’ve been using parenthesis in sentences indicated by commas, brackets and dashes. We’ve been identifying the key features of our exploration narrative. We’ve also been focusing on spellings of words with silent letter t.

Our focus in maths has been mental addition and subtracting and then using more formal methods to add four digit numbers.

In RE we have been thinking about how rules, like the Ten Commandments, help to keep us happy and safe. The children have then reflected on what makes them truly happy and why.

In Spanish we have been learning the months of the year.

In art Year 5 have looked at and discussed the work of Hundertwasser. They then used a viewfinder to select and draw a section of one of his images into their sketchbooks.

In PE the children are working with PE specialist Max from Blackpool Football Club Community Trust. The focus of their lessons this half term is hockey.

The new BEBCMAT Rock Stars Super League competition started this week and runs till the 24th October Good luck everyone!

Our school is currently in 4th place out of 15 schools in the trust and we have scored 1033 points (school average score) so far.

At Our Lady's we like to support our parents/carers in Online Safety matters.

Keeping children and young people safe online is one of the biggest challenges facing society today and it is all of our responsibility to ensure that children are educated to make positive, informed choices when they are online.

This month’s online safety guide gives helpful advice about…

What Parents & Educators Need to Know about FC26.  This online safety guide explores EA FC 26 – the latest edition of the immensely popular football game. It flags potential risks, including in-game purchases, scams, and exposure to strangers via voice chat.

We hope you find these guides informative and helpful in promoting the positive use of technology to make the online world a better and safer place for us all. Thank you.
