Science Week 2025
We have marked Science Week in many different ways this week, and what fun we have had in the process!
On Monday, a gentleman came in with a variety of birds for us to see and learn more about. We learnt all about the adaptations of an owl, a kookaburra, a kingfisher and a falcon. Many of us had the opportunity to hold one of the birds, and we all had the privilige of meeting their adorable therapy dog, named Poppy.
On Tuesday, it was fashion show day! The nine children from Year 6 that had designed and created a garment of clothing, by adapting recycled materials, showcased their outfits on the Our Lady’s runway. We have some natural cat walkers in Year 6, that’s for sure. I was so proud and impressed with each and every garment that was created and shared with the school. The winning two garments belong to Alexander and Harriet, who went to SJV to showcase their outfits along with other schools from the trust. Well done!
On Wednesday it was reptile/amphibian day! We had a meet and greet with several different animals, including snakes, lizards and frogs! We also learnt more about their adaptations and how they survive in their environment.
On Thursday we had a fun science lesson in the afternoon. We were each given a ball of clay and we had to create our own animals with different adaptations. We then had to explain the adaptations of our unique animals, and what their natural habitat would look like. I enjoyed seeing some animals with a combination of long necks, trunks and claws!
On Friday we gathered together, as a whole school, to reflect on the activities and events that had taken place over the course of the week. We saw lots of pictures of what each class had been up to and it was a lovely way to end our science week! Below are some of the pictures from Year 6’s week….
Monday (Birds)
Tuesday (Fashion Show)
Wednesday (Reptiles/Amphibians)

Thursday (Animal adaptation clay models)

Here is what else we have been up to….
In Maths this week our focus has been on counting cubes and/or using a formula to work out the volume of cubes and cuboids. We then went on to interpreting line graphs.
In English we completed our independent write. I look forward to reading and assessing all of these pieces of work!
In Science we continued with our topic on ‘Evolution and Inheritance’. This week we recapped what we learnt about Charles Darwin and his theories on evolution and Natural Selection. We then finished off our scientific reports.
In RE we completed our presentations, responding to the question, ‘How do we know that Jesus was truly human and truly God?’ I was so pleased with the children’s ability to use evidence from the bible to support their ideas.

At Our Lady's we like to support our parents/carers in Online Safety matters.
Keeping children and young people safe online is one of the biggest challenges facing society today and it is all of our responsibility to ensure that children are educated to make positive, informed choices when they are online.
This month’s online safety guide gives helpful advice about…
What Parents & Educators Need to Know about Roblox. This free guide highlights the potential risks of Roblox, including online encounters, inappropriate content, scams, and in-game purchases, and offers expert advice on how to mitigate these risks.
We hope you find these guides informative and helpful in promoting the positive use of technology to make the online world a better and safer place for us all. Thank you.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend! Let’s hope for more sunshine! 🌞
