In RE this week we were lucky enough to welcome Fr. Frank into our classroom for an “Ask Fr. Frank” Q&A. We had collectively prepared 4 questions, linked to our RE learning, to ask him and then we used the extra time at the end to ask our own questions. Fr. Frank is such an amazing RE resource and he really helps us all (teachers included!) to learn more about our faith and closen our relationship with God. During this special year of hope, Fr. Frank certainly instilled so much hope in us through our discussions about Jesus, our salvation. Thank you, Fr. Frank!

Here is what else we have been up to….

In Maths this week we continued with algebra and then spent the second half of the week looking at area and perimeter.

In English we finished planning our shared write and started to write our narrative together. We have started to produce a narrative piece of writing, based around The Wizard of Oz but with plot changes. After half term, the class can use their shared write to help and inspire them with their independent write!

On Tuesday, it was Safer Internet Day and in school we did some learning around the theme ‘Too good to be true? Protecting yourself and others from scams online‘. After completing some activities about how to identify an online scam, we then went on to produce some internet safety posters. These will be judge by Mrs Murphy and Mrs McVey (the computing lead) and the winning poster will receive a prize!

Today we also marked our ‘What I want to be when I’m older’ day by dressing up accordingly. It was so lovely to see a range of different prospective career choices among the Year 6 class. I (Mrs Murphy) came dressed as myself as, even as a little girl, I always wanted to be a teacher!!

🌟 AWARD WINNERS! 🌟

The Golden Award went to Zahra for working so hard to self-improve in all her learning.

The Writing Award went to Rosanna for her great innovation of our shared write.

The Maths award went to Layla for the improvements she has made with her arithmetic.

Science Week Year 6 Half Term Project

Mrs Ormerod was explaning to the class that we will be par-taking in a science fashion show based around the theme ‘Change and Adapt-reduce, reuse and recycle.’ She has explained that if anyone would like to be involved in this event, the project is to create a fashion garment that is wearable, using recycled/reused materials. This would need to be created at home and brought into school after half term. All entries will then be fashioned on a ‘catwalk’ in school, and the two winning garments will be taken to a fashion show at SJV with all other winning entires from the Trust. An overall winner will then be selected! This is optional however, the more entries we have, the better! So get your creative/eco thinking caps on!
