In RE this week our focus has been on Holy Communion-a very important part of the Mass. In preparation for Holy Communion, we are invited to stand as one family and pray to God our Father, by saying the Lord’s Prayer. We looked at this prayer, which we say so often, and picked apart the words we are saying. We interpreted each line of the Our Father to help us gain a deeper understanding of the words we are saying to God.
Here is what else we have been up to this week…
In Maths we have continued with our reasoning questions in our SATs rotation and looked at reflecting shapes in our whole-class lesson. We also have an ‘arithmetic’ lesson this week, where we zoned in on the questioned we find trickier, and practiced them in our books-the class really enjoyed this!
In English we continued to look at comprehension and GPS questions in our SATs rotation and in class we focused on subordinate clauses and subordinating conjunctions.
In Geography (and computing) we have been putting our computing skills to the test by making PowerPoints all about the UK. We have used all of our knowledge from what we have covered so far on this topic, as well as doing some additional research, to create presentations. When they have been complete, some of us will present ours to the class!
In PE we continued with our Archery and Tag Rugby. We are really developing our skills in both sports, but a big class target is on team work and good sportsmanship. There are some very competitive children in this class, and this can be a good thing, as long as this is not at the expense of others. Some members of the class need to work on being better team players, and not becoming too frustrated (and angry at times!) if their team is not winning. In life, we will win at times and we will lose at times-we need to build our resilience to this and learn how to be graceful in both circumstances.
In Art we continued with our Van Gogh inspired pieces of art. For some of us, we continued with where we left off last Friday, and others had another attempt at using Van Gogh’s style to apply colour to our Wizard of Oz scene.
AWARD WINNERS!
This week’s Golden Award went to Isabelle for working so incredibly hard in class this week!
The Maths Award was given to Lennon for his great reasoning skills in our rotation!
World Book Day 2022-Friday 25th March
Due to other commitments on the official World Book Day date (March 3rd), World Book Day will be celebrated in school on **FRIDAY 25th MARCH**. On that day we ask that the children come to school dressed as their favourite BOOK character. They can even bring the book with them to share in class. (Please ensure that any books brought into school are named). Do not feel you have to spend a lot of money on costumes - the homemade ones are always our favourites!
‘Much Ado About Nothing’-Grand Theatre, Tuesday 15th March
We would love it if you could support our amazing Year 5 children, who will be performing on stage (along with other Blackpool Schools) in the Shakespeare play ‘Much Ado About Nothing’, at the Grand Theatre. I have attached a link below, which will take you to the booking system so you can get your tickets. Please note that Our Lady’s are only performing in the Tuesday performance and not on the Thursday.

Year 6’s Sponsored ‘Walk Against Hunger’
Today the class were sent home with their sponsorship form for our sponsored walk for the CAFOD campaign ‘Walk Against Hunger’. I have also attached a copy of the form below, should you need to print another off at home. We are going to be walking all the beach and back on Thursday 31st March. Please sponsor us!!
Other Notices:
PE days are on Tuesdays and WEDNESDAYS.
Only a watch and plain stud earrings may be worn to school-no other jewellery. Some girls in the class have been wearing ‘hoop’ earrings-these are not appropriate for school.
Long hair must be tied back.
Nail varnish and/or false nails must NOT be worn to school-I had to speak to few members of the class about this, this week.
I will update the Home Learning Page if there are any members of the class having to isolate due to Covid, and are well enough to complete work. It is not expected for those who are off with other illnesses to complete Home Learning, hence why it is only updated for those isolating.
Have a lovely weekend!
