Wednesday 2nd March was Ash Wednesday and marked the beginning on Lent. All the children received ashes on this day as we celebrated Mass together, over at church. This week, each of us has made a promise to help spiritually nourish ourselves and closen our relationship with Christ over the period of Lent. As well as a personal Lenten Promise we have also made a class Lenten Promise, pledging to take part in a sponsored walk for the CAFOD campaign ‘Walk Against Hunger’. We will be raising money by ‘Walking Against Hunger’ in solidarity with the 200 million children whose lives are at risk because of malnutrition. More details of this, along with sponsorship forms, are to follow. Here is the link to the website if you would like to find out more about this campaign:

Here’s what else we have been up to this week….

In Maths we have continued looking at reasoning questions in our SATs rotation. In class we have been translating shapes along the x and y axis.

In English we have continued working our way through reading and GPS questions in our SATs rotation. In class we have focused on the use of colons, semi-colons and dashes in sentences.

In Geography we have been looking at Blackpool’s landscape and how it affects who we are and what we do. We compared urban and rural landscapes before identifying Blackpool’s landscape. We also looked at how accessible places are in Blackpool, focusing on modes of transport.

IN HRSE we have been focusing on Body Image. We watched an episode of ‘Paradise Street’ which focused on the insecurities of two of the characters. One girl wanted to look more grown up as she thought she look too ‘babyish’, while another thought he was too weak, so wanted to work out more to get muscles. In both situations, it provoked a class discussion about embracing who we are, and loving us for us, and trying not to change who we are because of pressures around us. God made us all unique and we must celebrate our differences and be thankful for who we are!

In PE we did archery on Tuesday and continued with Tag Rugby in our Wednesday lesson.

In Art we have applied colour to our Wizard of Oz Scene, using oil pastels. We have been inspired by Van Gogh’s distinct style, and tried our best to emulate this.

In Computing we used this lesson to trial out our new username and passwords for a Maths resources I have signed us up for. This is called Maths.co.uk. This resources allows me to set tests for the class, and with each unit they have 25 SATs style questions to complete. At the end of each test it tells them which ones they got right and wrong and allows me to see all results, to identify their gaps. All of the class have stuck their usernames and passwords in the front of their reading records. I think this is a valuable resource therefore I am going to use it for their Maths homework from next week, and for the next few weeks, in place of IXL units.

AWARD WINNERS…..to be announced on Monday.

World Book Day 2022-Friday 25th March

Due to other commitments on the official World Book Day date (March 3rd), World Book Day will be celebrated in school on **FRIDAY 25th MARCH**. On that day we ask that the children come to school dressed as their favourite BOOK character. They can even bring the book with them to share in class. (Please ensure that any books brought into school are named). Do not feel you have to spend a lot of money on costumes - the homemade ones are always our favourites!

‘Much Ado About Nothing’-Grand Theatre, Tuesday 15th March

We would love it if you could support our amazing Year 5 children, who will be performing on stage (along with other Blackpool Schools) in the Shakespeare play ‘Much Ado About Nothing’, at the Grand Theatre. I have attached a link below, which will take you to the booking system so you can get your tickets. Please note that Our Lady’s are only performing in the Tuesday performance and not on the Thursday.

Other Notices:

  • PE days are on Tuesdays and WEDNESDAYS.

  • Only a watch and plain stud earrings may be worn to school-no other jewellery. Some girls in the class have been wearing ‘hoop’ earrings-these are not appropriate for school.

  • Long hair must be tied back.

  • Nail varnish and/or false nails must NOT be worn to school-I had to speak to few members of the class about this, this week.

  • I will update the Home Learning Page if there are any members of the class having to isolate due to Covid, and are well enough to complete work. It is not expected for those who are off with other illnesses to complete Home Learning, hence why it is only updated for those isolating.

Have a lovely weekend!
