Today we celebrated the Feast of Pentecost by going over to church and taking part in a liturgy. Pentecost is one of the most important feast days of the year that concludes the Easter season and celebrates the beginning of the Church. Pentecost occurs 50 days after the death and resurrection of Jesus, and ten days after his ascension into heaven. When the Holy Spirit descended on the Apostles, they preached the Good News of Jesus Christ. Miraculously, people of many different languages and nations could understand the Apostles in their own languages. This miracle reflected God’s desire for the Gospel to be preached to all, and for all the peoples of the earth to be united in faith.
In church, some children from Year 5 were involved in reading out the readings from the Bible - they all read so beautifully, well done! Then, Father Frank invited each class to share the poster that we had all made which had the gifts of the Holy Spirit written on them. Our poster showed the gift of ‘understanding’. Each class also shared the word ‘Peace’ spoken in different languages, just as the disciples had been able to speak in different languages all those years ago. Year 5 shared the word ‘Peace’ in Ukranian - ‘мир’.
In class, alongside wearing bright colours to mark this wonderful joyous celebration, we did some Pentecost crafts to remind us of the coming of the Holy Spirit…

Our learning this week…
In English we have been looking at devices to support cohesion within a text and we have been identifying the features of a dilemma narrative in preparation for our own writing.
In maths this week we have been looking at number sequences involving fractions with the same and with different denominators.
In RE the children have been thinking about prayer and they have read a number of Bible readings where Jesus told us about how we should pray. The children then made their own guide to prayer in response.
This week’s prayer and liturgy was planned and led by Dominic and Teddy. This week’s prayer and liturgy was planned and led by Dominic and Teddy. The Gospel this week shows Jesus’ prayer for believers - that we would be one with Him and the Father. We can live in this unity by trusting Jesus, keeping our focus on Him, praying as He did to God the Father, and remaining in His love. The Gospel reading is taken from John 17:11-19.
“Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one,” John 17:11
