Good afternoon everyone,
We’ve had another very busy week as we move towards our final fortnight in Year 2. The children had a fantastic time meeting (or remeeting!) Mrs Holden in Year 3. They were full of positivity and very much looking forward to their next big step upstairs and into the juniors.
I want to take some time just to reiterate the importance of children having a good awareness of their private nature of their body, their rules for body safety and their right to say no to anyone who asks them to do something that they do not feel comfortable with. The above poster highlights the key parts of these. We have had a discussion in class about appropriate and inappropriate requests from others in relation to our bodies and what areas of our body are ours which we should keep away from others. Please do have a conversation with your child about this at home as it is very important to revisit from time to time.
English - This week we have written non-chronological reports on a jungle animal, created final drafts and attractive front covers and published our work.
Maths - In Maths we have continued to look at data collection, focusing upon pictograms and making links between these and tally charts. On Thursday we did a traffic survey outside of school which the children greatly enjoyed.
Science - In Science we have considered the suitability and unsuitability of materials for jobs. We have then considered other suitable/more suitable materials and explained the properties they have which makes them suitable.
RE - We began our mini-unit on Judaism by looking at Shabbat, specifically the Friday Night meal that helps Jewish people prepare for Shabbat.
Geography - Due to moving up afternoon, we did no Geography this week.
PE - We continued to practise for sports day.
Please continue to practise the Year 1 and 2 Common Exception Words - both reading and spelling!
Please practice learning the 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables as later this half term we will be having times table tests on these.
Other Tasks
Times Table Test
Please practise the 11 times table - it might sound hard but the children have already recognised the trick to solve these quickly - replacing the one digit number with the 1 ten and 1 one in 11.
Maths
Pictogram worksheet.
Golden Award -
Writing Award -
Maths Award -
Due to our school visit we did not give out awards this week.
We had a lovely time at Stanley Park engaging in active scientific enquiry. I’m sure your children will tell you all about it.
Our wet play toys are becoming a little tattered and tired and we are in desperate need of something newer.
If you have any toys, games, figures or playsets that your child no longer uses or has outgrown that you are able to donate to us we would be incredibly grateful.
Thank you in advance!

Nail Varnish - please ensure any nail varnish is removed for the pupils come into class. It should not be worn at school.
In this hot weather the children should come to school wearing sun cream, have a hat with them and have their water bottle each day. Please note the message sent during the week stating that children must wear shoes, and not sandals, to school for safety reasons. Many thanks.
Have a lovely weekend,
Mr Whetnall, Mrs Bowdell and Mrs Gibbons
