Good afternoon everyone,
This week in worship, we have listened to Mark 9. We discussed how Jesus tells us that God wants us to put others first and take care of them over our own wants and needs. We discussed how being selfless and compassionate towards others can be tricky but that we should always try to be a servant to others. We linked this to Jesus washing His disciples dusty feet, in the way that a servant does, to show that He is there to help us.
English - This week we have continued A River. We have explored settings and have written our own question sentences for what we wonder, we have learned about expanded noun phrases and began to construct our own, we have also explored vocabulary from our text, exploring the meaning of words and phrases and finding synonyms for these words.
Maths - In Maths we have focused on skip counting. We have counted in 2s, 5s and 10s separately and have also done work on identifying which number we are counting in steps of.
Science - In Science we looked at the life cycle of a butterfly and wrote an explanation of this.
RE - We discussed the importance of caring for our world, linking this to God’s promise to Noah and all of humanity. We also looked at how we all have unique gifts and these have been chosen for us by God before we were born to use in His praise.
Geography - We named the 5 oceans of the world and wrote facts about each one.
Computing - We thought about what makes a computer and identified computers in our school.
PE - In our outdoor PE we practised passing and moving with speed. In indoor PE, we continued our dance unit.
On Thursday, we celebrated European Day of Languages. In Year 2, we explored the German languages. We learned about the countries where German is spoken (and were surprised that it is spoken in some parts of Italy!); learned about German culture and learned some German phrases: such as numbers to 10, hello and goodbye, thank you and please. We even listened to a German language pop song!

You do not need to return completed homework to school. It is set so you can see what your child is learning about during the week. However, I am happy to look at any completed work if you want it be checked.
We have all taken our reading quiz and this has given us a book level (known as ZPD). This allows us to give the children reading books which are at the best level for them in regards to both word reading but also their ability to remember and explain what they have read. We will do these reading quizzes at the beginning and end of every half term.
Please read as often as possible at home. It is the most important piece of work you can do with your child to support their learning.
