Good afternoon everyone,
This week we have continued settling into our new surroundings and have been adjusting ourselves to the new working challenges in Year 2. We are developing our independence every week!
This week’s worship has focused upon Jesus’ healing of the blind man. We have been thinking about how we must have our ears open to Jesus so that we can share his love and kindness with others.
English - This week we have been slowly developing our independence and stamina in our written work. Whilst still exploring The Colour Monster, we have written a letter of advice to the monster, written a page about love and also began to plan a piece of writing based upon adding a new emotion to the story.
Maths - In Maths we have continued to explore tens and ones; solving problems involving these. We have also extended partitioning to explore partitioning numbers in different ways. E.g, 54 can be made up of 50+4, but also 40+14, 30+24, 20+34, etc. This has been a little tricky for some of us so we will continue to revisit this throughout the Autumn term.
Science - In Science we looked at the characteristics of different groups of animals which help us to classify them as mammals, fish, reptiles, amphibians and birds. We drew diagrams of a bird and labelled the characteristics which make them birds.
RE - We read the Old Testament story of the Fall of Man and wrote our own retellings of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.
Geography - We learned about Planet Earth and explored satellite photos. This helped us to understand the difference between physical and human geographical features. We used an aerial photo of Blackpool to identify these features in our town.
Computing - We learned about some key parts of a computer.
PE - In our outdoor PE we practised passing a ball and then moving. In indoor PE, we created our own dance sequences based on vehicle movements.
Regular Tasks
Please continue to practise counting in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s and reading the Year 1 and Year 2 common exception words every week. This is so important for our learning!
Other Tasks
Spelling Test
ure and ear words.
There is also a handwriting sheet for these words.
Maths
Partitioning numbers in different ways.
Handwriting
Practise sheet for letter formation.
Reading
A reading comprehension about the life cycle of a bird.
You do not need to return completed homework to school. It is set so you can see what your child is learning about during the week. However, I am happy to look at any completed work if you want it be checked.
We have all taken our reading quiz and this has given us a book level (known as ZPD). This allows us to give the children reading books which are at the best level for them in regards to both word reading but also their ability to remember and explain what they have read. We will do these reading quizzes at the beginning and end of every half term.
Please read as often as possible at home. It is the most important piece of work you can do with your child to support their learning.

Nail Varnish - please ensure any nail varnish is removed for the pupils come into class. It should not be worn at school.
Key Rings - please do not put key rings onto your child’s school bag, it create fuss in class and then upset if they are lost.
