Good afternoon everyone,
This week we have talked about being like Jesus. In our worship we looked at Mark 9:40 and discussed how if we do as Jesus does then we are with Him and doing as He wishes us to do. We extended on this by looking at the specific gifts God has given us and how we can use them to be ‘for Jesus.’
English - This week we have delved deeper into our circular narrative texts. We explored example texts based on A River and explored the purpose of specific choices the writer has made. We also created our own expanded noun phrases about settings and explored the use of the suffixes -er and -est to create comparative adjectives. Finally, we looked at the subordinating conjunctions: because, if, when and that.
Maths - In Maths we have finished our place value unit of work by looking at counting in 3s to solve problems. We have now moved onto addition and subtraction and have had a big focus on identifying the 4 related facts which make up a fact family. We have extended this to also look at what happens if we move the position of the = symbol.
Science - In Science we looked at the life cycle of a mammal by looking at sheep.
RE - We discussed how we feel about the gifts we have been given by God and why it is important that we use them. We also looked at Psalm 139 again and thought about how we say sorry to God in church. We wrote our own sorry prayers to God.
Geography - We explored the problems that plastic pollution can cause for our oceans and created posters encouraging people to be more thoughtful about their use of plastic.
Computing - We designed a machine to perform a specific job and identified the inputs and outputs needed for it to function.
PE - In our outdoor PE we practised passing and moving with speed. In indoor PE, we continued our dance unit.

You do not need to return completed homework to school. It is set so you can see what your child is learning about during the week. However, I am happy to look at any completed work if you want it be checked.
We have all taken our reading quiz and this has given us a book level (known as ZPD). This allows us to give the children reading books which are at the best level for them in regards to both word reading but also their ability to remember and explain what they have read. We will do these reading quizzes at the beginning and end of every half term.
Please read as often as possible at home. It is the most important piece of work you can do with your child to support their learning.
