This week we have been examining the Nicene Creed and what we, as Catholics, believe about God. We have studies the first part of the creed and what this means for us and we have discussed what we believe about God. We had the most lovely discussion in class and the children have produced some beautiful work about what they believe abut God the Father. Maybe this is something you can re-visit this weekend at home or in Mass.
English - this week we have been working on the set 2 RWI sounds and have been working on holding a sentence in our head and then independently writing it down.
Maths - this week we have been working on greater than, less then and equal to. We have used base ten to make these signs and used ones cubes to show our number sentences. We have practiced our sentences using the correct vocabulary with our partner before applying this understanding to our independent work.
RE - we have continued our new topic on Creation by looking at the Nicene Creed and examining what Catholics believe about God.
History - we have continued on topic on Our Family by investigating old style toys, the materials they are made from, how we play with them and whether we think they are fun, or not! This week we looked the similarities and differences between old and new toys.
Science - this week we investigated how our bodies changed as we grown. We looked at a selection of photos of people off all ages and ordered them accordingly and then looked for similarities and differences between the people.
Computing - this week we learnt how to safety turn on, log into, log out and switch off our laptops and then investigated to programme Sketchpad.
Art - the children investigated colour tins through the painting a dragon using the story George and the Dragon!
This week’s winners are….
Golden Award - Luna for showing a super attitude to learning and always being respectful to those around her. Luna is a super role model in our class.
Writing Award - Eva for lovely writing in RE about I believe…showing what she believes about God.
Maths Award - Karson for demonstrating a sound knowledge and understanding this week of greater than and less then.
PE will be on Monday and Friday so please send the children into class in the PE kits on those days. No earrings can be worn for PE so please ensure that they are taken out at home.
Water bottles - all the children were given a new school bottle this week. This will come home each night to be cleaned and re-filled. Please only use the school bottles and ensure your child brings theirs each day. Lost water bottles can be replaced at the school office, but I am afraid you will have to pay for those. Year 1 have white tops.
I will not be in class on a Thursday afternoon, as it is my release time. This will be covered by Mrs Veasey and Mrs Connolly and is also when the children will have Music with Mrs Watson
Party Invitations - I am afraid that Mrs Veasey and I will not be able to give out party invitations in class. Please do not send your child into class with them for them to give out - it creates upset and fuss about something that takes place outside of school.Thank-you for your understanding with this matter.
Key Rings - please do not put key rings onto your child’s school bag, it create fuss in class and then upset if they are lost.
School bag - please continue to use the red book bag that your child was given in Reception, we don’t not have the room to store large bags. Many thanks for your help with this matter.
Homework Expectations - please see the Homework page for what I expect the children to do at home…..don’t worry, it’s mainly just reading!! Yr1 Homework — Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Primary School (squarespace.com)
This year we are collecting tinned food for the local food bank. We are asking each child to bring in one tin for our collection. Please donate, if you can, for this very worthy cause. The children can bring their tins into class, where we have a donation box. Many thanks to those who have donated already.
