This has been the theme of our class worship this week. That as we are loved by God, so we should love ourselves and those around us. each day we have thought about how we can share and show that love with all those who we meet in our daily lives….through our words, our actions, our care, our forgiveness and through our prayer. This goes to the very heart of what we stand for at Our Lady’s and who we are.
English - this week we have been working on the set 2 RWI sounds and have been working on holding a sentence in our head and then independently writing it down.
Maths - this week we have been working on ordering numbers according to their value, looking at using the language of largest and smallest, less than less and greater than, more than and less than. We have used counters, drawn pictures and used our number tracks to prove that one number is greater than or less than in value than another number. Important that we don’t use the term bigger than as that can indicate that it’s size, rather than value, is the focus.
RE - we have continued our topic on Creation by looking at prayer and the importance of prayer in our relationship with God. We have written our own prayers to God this week, along with looking at the words of Laudate Si from Pope Francis and who he views the world and our role in it. A very interesting lesson with Year 1 who had some very mature points to raise about who people have treated the world.
History - we have completed on topic on Our Family by investigating toys and making some posters for a toy museum.
Science - this week we completed our work on the human body by comparing our features with our friend’s along with looking at the different tasks people can do at different stages of their lives.
Computing - this week we learnt how to safety turn on, log into, log out and switch off our laptops and then investigated to programme Sketchpad.
Art - this week the children have had a go at making some of their own toys!! Great fun was had by all!!
Well done to this week’s winners…
Golden Award - Mabel for having a very caring nature, a beautiful smile on her face and a heart full of love ready to share with others each day.
Writing Award - Carter for working on his pencil grip this half term and applying RWI features to his independent writing.
Maths Award - Edie for explaining that one number is larger than another because it has more counters to show its value than another
PE will be on Monday and Friday so please send the children into class in the PE kits on those days. No earrings can be worn for PE so please ensure that they are taken out at home.
Water bottles - all the children were given a new school bottle this week. This will come home each night to be cleaned and re-filled. Please only use the school bottles and ensure your child brings theirs each day. Lost water bottles can be replaced at the school office, but I am afraid you will have to pay for those. Year 1 have white tops.
I will not be in class on a Thursday afternoon, as it is my release time. This will be covered by Mrs Veasey and Mrs Connolly and is also when the children will have Music with Mrs Watson
Party Invitations - I am afraid that Mrs Veasey and I will not be able to give out party invitations in class. Please do not send your child into class with them for them to give out - it creates upset and fuss about something that takes place outside of school.Thank-you for your understanding with this matter.
Key Rings - please do not put key rings onto your child’s school bag, it create fuss in class and then upset if they are lost.
School bag - please continue to use the red book bag that your child was given in Reception, we don’t not have the room to store large bags. Many thanks for your help with this matter.
Homework Expectations - please see the Homework page for what I expect the children to do at home…..don’t worry, it’s mainly just reading!! Yr1 Homework — Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Primary School (squarespace.com)
At Our Lady's we like to support our parents/carers in Online Safety matters.
Keeping children and young people safe online is one of the biggest challenges facing society today and it is all of our responsibility to ensure that children are educated to make positive, informed choices when they are online.
This month’s online safety guides give helpful advice about…
EA Sports FC 24 This is the spiritual successor to FIFA which is likely to be a similarly spectacular hit among young football fans.
We hope you find these guides informative and helpful in promoting the positive use of technology to make the online world a better and safer place for us all.
After half term I will start sharing pictures of the children and their learning. If you haven’t sent back your permission form and I will NOT include photos of your child as I will presume you do not give permission. It is not too late to return those forms if you still have them at home.
Thank-you all for attending our parent teacher meetings on Monday - it was so lovely to see you all and talk about the progress your children have made this half-term. The children have worked SO hard over the last 7 weeks and they are ready for a well deserved week off…..as are we!!
Also a HUGE THANK-YOU for all your harvest donations - we have collected so many tins for our local food bank.
And finally…..have a lovely week off, we return to school on TUESDAY 31st October. Mrs Hollinghurst, Mrs Veasey and all the Year 1 team.
