We are all guilty of doing this….particularly at this time of year in school when we are busy thinking about about what comes next. This week I have been busy talking to Mr Whetnall about the children moving into Year 2 and to Miss Holmes about the children coming up from Reception, that I wanted to take the time to stop and celebrate all that the children have achieved this year and how far we have come. I hope in the next two weeks, our last of the school year, we will all take the time to reflect on what has gone by, as well as what is to come.
This week we have been learning…..
English - our focus has been our RWI lessons where we concentrate on phonics, spelling, reading and writing. In class we continue to work hard on our pre-cursive handwriting, spelling of the common exception words and our independent sentence construction.
Maths - this week has been all measures and comparing the height and length of objects. We have used the language of tall, taller, tallest along with small, smaller, smallest to compare objects and even measure them using non-standard measures, such as cubes. We had great fum measuring objects in the classroom with cubes, especially our tables and chairs!!
RE - this week we have focused on the miracles of Jesus and in particular the story of the Jesus feeding the 5000.
Science - we have continued to focus on the signs of summer and creating our own posters of summer suing summer features. We have also enjoyed listening to the oyster catchers that we have spotted around school lately.
Topic - we have continued with our topic of Significant People in History, learning about the explorer Neil Armstrong and writing our own fact files about him.
Art - this week the children have created their own beautiful butterflies and summer kites.
Many congratulations to this week’s certificate winners….
Writing Award - Penny for super RE work on what we have learnt about Jesus
Maths Award - Alistair for super, careful measuring this week.
