On Thursday we marked the Feast Day of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, 29th June, by learning about these two men and what their lives teach us about the love of God. We learnt that mistakes are always forgiven and nothing is impossible if we have faith in the Lord. Read more about these two men here. St Peter & St Paul.
A MASSIVE thank-you to you all for supporting in us at our rather wet and windy Sports Day on Wednesday - I don’t think the weather could have been worse for if it tried! However, we made the best of the afternoon, completing half of our activities in front of parents and grandparents, and the rest on Friday in our PE lesson. I was so proud of all the children for how they conducted themselves, how they supported their team and how they didn’t complain about the awful weather! After we went inside we had our ice lolly treats and listened to some stories. Well done Year 1 and many thanks to you all for your support. Photos at the end of the blog!
This week we have been learning…..
English - our focus has been our RWI lessons where we concentrate on phonics, spelling, reading and writing. In class we continue to work hard on our pre-cursive handwriting, spelling of the common exception words and our independent sentence construction.
Maths - this week has been all about counting in 5’s. We have looked at both of these sequences to look for patterns that we can use to identify a number that IS and ISN’T in either of the sequences. We have also moved on to look at solving number problems and finding the word in the problem that tells us what we should be doing.
RE - this week we have focused on the miracles of Jesus and in particular the story of theJesus healing the blind man.
Science - we have continued to focus on the signs of summer and creating our own images and writing to support what summer looks like to us.
Topic - we have continued with our topic of Significant People in History, learning about the explorer Neil Armstrong, how he is remembered and what we think of his explorations now.
Art - this week the children have painted their clay animals - they look super and I know the children are VERY proud of them!
Many congratulations to our certificate winners this week…
Golden Award - Noah for his wonderful clay animal.
Writing Award - Alistair for beautiful pre-cursive handwriting - I can see all the hard work you have put in.
Maths Award - Finlay for super problem solving work this week.
