We have spent a lot of time this week talking about the miracles of God and what is possible. We have also talked about the small miracles that we can perform - and do - each and every day. With God, all things are possible - not a bad moto to live by.
This week we have been learning…..
English - our focus has been our RWI lessons where we concentrate on phonics, spelling, reading and writing. In class we continue to work hard on our pre-cursive handwriting, spelling of the common exception words and our independent sentence construction.
Maths - this week has been all measures - height and weight. We have continued to practice our measuring using a ruler and we have also started to use scales to compare the weight of two objects and use the words heavier and lighter. We have also looked at weighing an object using a non-standard unit of measure, such as cubes.
RE - this week we have focused on the miracles of Jesus and thought about the miracles that we would perform, if we could.
Science - we have continued to focus on the signs of summer and creating our own posters of summer using summer features.
Topic - we have continued with our topic of Significant People in History, learning about the explorer Neil Armstrong and making lists of things we would take into space if we could, along with making little space models!
Art - this week the children have created their own summer kites.
Many congratulations to our certificate winners this week……
Golden Award - Reggie for writing a thoughtful message in class.
Golden Award - Albie for making a lovely kite in Art
Writing Award - Matilda for constantly beautiful handwriting that always makes me smile!
Maths Award - Luna for super measuring work this week using balance scales
Year 1 Trip to the Beach! MONDAY 18th JULY
Our beach day is fast approaching - fingers crossed that this weather holds! Just a few little details...
If your child is bringing their own lunch - please bring it in a disposable bag so that it can be thrown away after lunch. It will just save your child having to carry it around with them - drinks bottles should also be disposable too. We will take extra drinks for the children, so please don't worry about that.
If your child has a bucket and spade that they wish to bring with them on Monday - that is fine, but they will have to carry it, they are responsible for it and please ensure it is named.
Please ensure your child has sun cream on before they come to school - even if it is breezy, the sun will be strong by the sea.
PE kits should be worn and the children will need a hat.
I know that the children are very excited and this will be a lovely way to end our year together. Many thanks for the payments that have already been made through PARENT PAY - if you haven't paid it yet, the site remains open for payments.
Things to note…
Children should have their water bottles each day. Water bottles must be taken home and washed daily. Children can only have plain water in their bottles, not juice or flavoured water.
PE is Monday and Friday
Earrings cannot be worn for PE
Nail varnish cannot be worn for school.
Earrings should only be small, plain, gold or silver studs
Children should have long hair tied back for school
School bags should just be the red book bags you were given in Reception
Please keep reading folders in the children’s school bags so that they have them on the right day - many thanks.
Homework Expectations for Year 1 can be found on the Homework page. Year 1 Homework Expectations - SUMMER TERM — Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Primary School (ourladyassumption-sch.co.uk)
If you haven’t yet sent in a named large carrier bag, please could I ask you to as soon as you can - Mrs V is trying to get all the books ready to send home on TUESDAY. We have been asked by Mrs Mannix, our new Head Teacher, to keep a selection of the children’s books, so if your child doesn’t bring certain books home it is because they are still at school. We will send them home when Mrs Mannix has finished with them. Many thanks.
And finally…..have a lovely weekend, stay safe. Mrs Hollinghurst, Mrs Vesey and Miss Sanderson.
A few pictures of our week…….
Take a look at our potato crop!!
