This week we have been learning al about the story of Noah’s Ark and the importance of the rainbow in the story. The rainbow was a sign of God’s promise to the world - a covenant between the heavens and Earth. We have been discussing that promise this week and the fact that God always keeps His promises to us. The rainbow is a power sign of God’s power and His love for us.
English - we have continued on with our RWI lessons. During these sessions we all focus on phonics, reading, spelling and sentence development. We have also been working on our pre-cursive handwriting in which we focus on how to write our letters, starting on the line. We have also been learning how to spelling because suing the rhyme….big elephants can always understand small elephants. As well as that we are focusing on the tricky words of ’said and ‘you’ - how to recognise them, read them and spell them.
Maths - this week we have been working on the same, fewer and more this week using amounts of an object. We have also started to look at the equal to, less then and more than symbols and learning how to use them when we are comparing numbers. We have followed this up by comparing three numbers and ordering them smallest to greatest or greatest to smallest.
RE - this half term is all about Creation - have focused on the story of Noah’s Ark this week and the promise that God made to the world through the sign of the rainbow.
Science - our topic this half term is all about our bodies. This week we have been focusing how our body changes as we get older and what stays the same.
History - our focus is all about ourselves and life within our living memory. This week we have looked at toys from the past and toys that we play with now and written a short description of a toy and what how we would play with it.
Art - the children have started their Painting unit with work all about the primary colous and learning about how to use different brush strokes. This week their painting was based on the story of Fred the Dragon! They have painted some amazing dragons!!

Writing Award - Jacob for always trying hard to sound words out independently to use in his own writing. Super Fred Fingers!
Maths Award - Buddy for fabulous involvement in Fluent in Five Mental Maths work
General pieces of information
PE will be on Monday and Friday so please send the children into class in the PE kits on those days. No earrings can be worn for PE so please ensure that they are taken out at home.
Water bottles - This will come home each night to be cleaned and re-filled. Please only use the school bottles and ensure your child brings theirs each day.
I will not be in class on a Thursday afternoon, as it is my release time. This will be covered by Mrs Veasey and Miss Sanderson and is also when the children will have Music with Miss Hope

This is is a great site in general but the page linked has a super little video showing how the sounds should be pronounced. See how many sounds your child knows! THURSDAY 20TH OCTOBER - Own Clothes Day - the PTFA are asking for a contribution of £1 to school funds for the pleasure of wearing own clothes to school that day.
FRIDAY 21ST OCTOBER - Parent Meeting Day - this is our INSET at the end of the half term. More details about how to book an appointment were sent out yesterday, Thursday 13.10.22, this is an on-line booking process.

For Harvest this year we are collecting tins of food - any full tin will be gratefully received! Beans, vegetables, fruit….whatever you can spare would be wonderful to add to our school collection to support the local Food Bank and people who are struggling in our area. Many, many thanks.
