We have talked about the wonderful world that God created for us to live in this week and how He has pleased with what He had done. We have looked at how we now have to care for God’s world and discussed the ways in which we can do this. We have had some great chats and Year 1 are very knowledgeable and caring about the world around them.
English - we have continued on with our RWI lessons. During these sessions we all focus on phonics, reading, spelling and sentence development. We have also been working on our pre-cursive handwriting in which we focus on how to write our letters, starting on the line. We have also been learning how to spelling because suing the rhyme….big elephants can always understand small elephants.
Maths - this week we have been working on the same, fewer and more this week using amounts of an object. We have also started to look at the equal to, less then and more than symbols and learning how to use them when we are comparing numbers.
RE - this half term is all about Creation - we have started by looking at the Creation story and the wonderful world that the Lord that created for us. This week we have focused on how we can look after God’s world.
Science - our topic this half term is all about our bodies. This week we have been focusing on different parts of the body and what them help us to do and lokoing at what is the same and what is different between us all.
History - our focus is all about ourselves and life within our living memory. This week we have looked at toys from the past and toys that we play with and started to compare the two. This week we drawn our own favourite toys, grouped old and new toys, put toys in a timeline and looked for what is the same and what is different and continued to make our own peg dolls!
Art - the children have started their Painting unit with work all about the primary colous and learning about how to use different brush strokes. This week their painting was based on the work of Jasper Johns’ Number series of painting. The children have used to digits 0-9 to create a beautiful piece of art work.
ICT - we are learning how to switch on, login and then safety switch off our laptops as well as how to use the art programme Sketchpad.

Golden Award - Sofia for being a super role model in Year 1 and showing super behaviour for learning.
Writing Award - Nina for working very hard on her pre-cursive letter formation - I am impressed!
Maths Award - Antonia for great greater then and less than work this week using Base Ten to show the calculation.
General pieces of information
PE will be on Monday and Friday so please send the children into class in the PE kits on those days. No earrings can be worn for PE so please ensure that they are taken out at home.
Water bottles - This will come home each night to be cleaned and re-filled. Please only use the school bottles and ensure your child brings theirs each day.
I will not be in class on a Thursday afternoon, as it is my release time. This will be covered by Mrs Veasey and Miss Sanderson and is also when the children will have Music with Miss Hope

We had a lovely visit from Mrs Holden and Eddie on Monday!! The children loved seeing Mrs Holden and meeting Eddie for the first time…the children were very excited and very well behaved so as not to startle baby Eddie! We had a lovely visit with them.
Please return your permission forms and data checks as soon as you can….when they have all been returned I can then start adding photos to the website as to what we have been doing in class!!
DATES FOR YOUR DIARY
THURSDAY 20TH OCTOBER - Own Clothes Day - the PTFA are asking for a contribution of £1 to school funds for the pleasure of wearing own clothes to school that day.
FRIDAY 21ST OCTOBER - Parent Meeting Day - this is our INSET at the end of the half term. More details about how to book an appointment to follow.
For Harvest this year we are collecting tins of food - any full tin will be gratefully received! Beans, vegetables, fruit….whatever you can spare would be wonderful to add to our school collection to support the local Food Bank and people who are struggling in our area. Many, many thanks.
