This week we have continued to focus on Noah and how He was a good man who listened to God. We have thought about how we can show that we are listening to God and are being the best people that we can be.
English - we have continued on with our RWI lessons. During these sessions we all focus on phonics, reading, spelling and sentence development. We have also been working on our pre-cursive handwriting in which we focus on how to write our letters, starting on the line. We have also been learning how to spelling because suing the rhyme….big elephants can always understand small elephants. As well as that we are focusing on the tricky words of ’said and ‘you’ - how to recognise them, read them and spell them.
Maths - this week we have been working on position and ordinal numbers…first, second, third, we have looked at how we read these numbers and what they mean. We have played lots of games with coloured counters and talked a lot to our partners using ordinal number langauge.
RE - this half term is all about Creation - have focused on the story of Noah’s Ark this week and the children have begun writing what they have remembered and learnt bot this story.
Science - our topic this half term is all about our bodies. This week we have been focusing how humans are mammals and we have started to classify animals according to their observable features. This will lead us into our work for next half term.
History - our focus is all about ourselves and life within our living memory. This week we have looked at toys from the past and toys that we play with now and written a short description of a what has changed and what has stayed the same.
Art - the children have finished off our unit of toys by making a selection of toys this afternoon!

I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow for our first Parent/Teacher Meetings - thank-you to those of you who have already made appointments, if you haven’t there are still a couple of slots left!
The appointments are just 10 minutes long and to ensure that I run to time, and everyone has the slot that they booked, I will keep to those 10 minutes appointments! If after that you feel there is more to discuss, please feel free to make another appointment after half term. Your child’s English and Maths books will be available for you to look at after your appointment time, should you wish to have a look through. I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow.
Thank-you for support this half term with helping the children to settle so well into Year 1, I know it is a BIG change, but they have done SO well and I am DELIGHTED with the progress they have all made.
