This week our focus has been on the miracles of Jesus and in particular the Feeding of the Five Thousand. We have talked a lot about the fact that Jesus gave thanks to God before He share the loaves and fish, in the same way that we give thanks to God each before we eat. May the grace and mercy of the Lord fill you with all that you need to be strong and face lives challenges.
This week we have been learning…..
English - this week we have continued with our Superhero theme and have been writing superhero based sentences in our grammar work. This week we have focused on past tensed verbs adding ‘ed’ to the end of the verbs, irregular verbs that need changing and also adding ‘ing’ to verbs to make them into present tense verbs. Along with this we have continued our phonics work, spelling the common exception words for Year 1 and our pre-cursive spelling. Busy, busy!!
Maths - this week we have focused on measures, with practical Maths work all about weight. We have compared the weight of items using our balance scales and then measured the weight of objects using cubes. We have used lots of measure vocabulary in our sentences when speaking to our partner about what we have found. See the photographs below.
RE - this week our work has been about re-telling some of the stories surrounding the Miracles of Jesus. Our focus this week has been the Feeding of the Five Thousand. Thee children have written some super recounts.
Science - this week we have continued our re-cap of Materials by looking at whether items are fit for purpose, whether they are made of the best material and whether we can change the shape of certain materials by applying force.
Geography - this week we learnt about Brazil and the Amazon rainfoest, locating them on our maps and then making a key for a map of Brazil. We also looked at some photographs of the rainforest and labelled what we saw.
Art - can’t give anything away about our art lesson this week….it’s a secret!!
All of the children have worked hard this week, but these are the members of our class that we are celebrating this week….
Golden Award - Luna for super work all week in all subjects and fabulous behaviour of learning.
Writing Award - Matilda for a lovely handwriting and a great improvement in the presentation of her work.
Maths Ward - Hallie-Jayne for great measures work this week using balance scales.
Thank-you so much for continuing to respect Social Distancing measures at drop off and pick up times and wearing your masks. These measures are so important to ensure everyone’s safety at school and to ensure that our Year 1 bubble remains open to all. Can I please stress the importance of the one way system at pick up time - IN on the Common Edge Road entrance and OUT down the drive onto Thornhhill Close.
SOCIAL DISTANCING, MASK WEARING AND BUBBLE MEASURES IN SCHOOL REMAIN IN PLACE.
Things to remember……
PE continues to be on Monday and Friday - no earrings on these days please
Bring your school water bottle each day - lots of children have been without them this week.
Think about sun cream and hats in this weather - we try to be outside as much as possible when the weather is kind to us.
Reading books will be changed on your child’s reading day - we will only be able to send home a basket book each week - Guided Reading books will remain in school. We still have to quarantine books for 72 hours before they are sent home to anyone else. This limits the number of books we have to send home. Please sign your child’s reading record when they read at home.
Please keep your child at home if they are unwell - we must all play our part to keep the bubble safe.
School closes at 1.15pm for all children on Friday’s.
Many thanks for your support with Wear the Rainbow Day today - the children look super and you have helped us to raise lots of money to develop the school garden. Thank-you so much.
And finally…..have a lovely weekend, stay safe. Mrs Hollinghurst, Mrs Veasey and Miss Collins
Take a look at our week…..
