We have had another great week in Year 1. This week we have continued to learn about the miracles of Jesus and the fact that the people were helped were those who had faith in Him. Can we be like those people who needed Jesus’ help and have faith in Him?
This week we have been learning….
English- we have continued with our superhero theme. We have looked at opposite super powers and have written comparative sentences using ‘than’ and ‘as a’ to describe our character’s super powers! The children have rally enjoyed this! We have continued to make good progress with our common exception words, handwriting and spellings.
Maths - we have continued with our work on measures, this week focusing on weight and capacity. We have looked at comparing balance scales and using the language of measures to describe what we can see.
RE - this week we have read the stories of Jesus healing the paralysed man and the feeding of the five thousand. We have listened to stories, drawn pictures, wrote speak bubbles and discussed the importance of these stories.
Science - this week we continued with our work on Materials and our experiment was all about materials that float or sink.
Topic - this week we investigated the animals that live in the Amazon rainforest in preparation for our art lesson……
Art - this week the children made clay models of their favourite rainforest animal! Take a look at the photos below.
We continue to be proud of all of the children, but these are the ones we are celebrating this week…..
Golden Award - Aibhin for her thoughtful and reflective responses to the stories of the miracles of Jesus this week.
Writing Award - Jacob for super independent sentences in our superhero topic this week.
Maths Award - Matilda for fabulous work on measures this week.
We have been reminded of the prevalence of this infection this week with our Reception and Year 3 bubbles going down. Please keep to the guidance and if you at all concerned about the health of your child, or a member of your household, PLEASE keep your child at home and get a test. We want to enjoy these last few weeks in school together and not with us having to isolate at home. Many thanks for your continued support with this matter - we cannot afford to let our guard down.
Thank-you so much for continuing to respect Social Distancing measures at drop off and pick up times and wearing your masks. These measures are so important to ensure everyone’s safety at school and to ensure that our Year 1 bubble remains open to all. Can I please stress the importance of the one way system at pick up time - IN on the Common Edge Road entrance and OUT down the drive onto Thornhhill Close.
SOCIAL DISTANCING, MASK WEARING AND BUBBLE MEASURES IN SCHOOL REMAIN IN PLACE.
Things to remember……
PE continues to be on Monday and Friday - no earrings on these days please
Bring your school water bottle each day - lots of children have been without them this week.
Think about sun cream and hats in this weather - we try to be outside as much as possible when the weather is kind to us.
Reading books will be changed on your child’s reading day - we will only be able to send home a basket book each week - Guided Reading books will remain in school. We still have to quarantine books for 72 hours before they are sent home to anyone else. This limits the number of books we have to send home. Please sign your child’s reading record when they read at home.
Please keep your child at home if they are unwell - we must all play our part to keep the bubble safe.
School closes at 1.15pm for all children on Friday’s.
Year 1 TRIP TO THE BEACH! THURSDAY 1ST JULY. Hope all you received your letters tonight abut our little trip. we wanted to end of a high with a treat for the children to say thank-you for being little super stars…i couldn’t wish for a better class! The PTFA have donated money to each class for an end of term treat and this is what we have decided to spend ours on….so NO cost to you at all. If you could please return the slips by WEDNESDAY at the latest that would be great. I will ask the children early next week what they would like on their sandwiches - ALL Year 1 are entitled to a free school dinner and packed lunches are always provided by the kitchen on days out. Any questions - just contact me through the class email. many thanks. (Please trip letter below if your letter didn’t make it home!! I just need your signature to take the children out of school.)
