This Sunday, 23rd May, we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost, when the Lord sent the Holy Spirit to the disciples of Christ to fill them with courage. We have spoken a great deal this week about what the Holy Spirit brings to us - strength, courage, faith, hope, love……all the things that we all need right now. Those first followers of Jesus showed incredible courage as they went out into the world to spread the Word of God, but they did so in the true and certain knowledge of God’s love of them. I hope that you feel the power and love of the Holy Spirit as we celebrate Pentecost this weekend - may the Lord fill you with the love and strength that you need to go forth and proclaim the love of the Lord. May God Bless you and keep you all.
This week we have been learning….
English - this week has all been about alliteration and rhyme as we have continued to work on our poetry theme. we enjoyed sharing some tongue twisters at the beginning of the week and had great fun saying them as quickly as we could!! The children have continued to work hard on their pre-cursive handwriting, Common Exception word spellings, reading and phonics.
Maths - this week we have worked on Word Problems. This has proved a little tricky, but we got there in the end looking for certain words and phrases in the questions…we know to look out for altogether, in total, how many more, how many fewer. The children have worked very hard this week.
RE - this wee has all been about the coming of the Holy Spirit and how the disciples became the Apostles and were tasked with spreading the Word of God. We are working hard to do the same.
Science - this week we finished our work on Plants and Growing….even bringing home our sunflowers! We also made flowers in class and remembered all the names of the different parts as we made them.
History - this week we completed out work on the Queens by making posters all about Queen Victoria.
Art - this week it was our painting week and we worked hard to make our own versions of van Gogh’s Sunflowers - take a look at some of the photos below.
The children have all continued to work hard this week, but these are the pupils we are celebrating…..
Golden Award - Oscar-James for super sunflower painting based on Vincent van Gogh’s Sunflowers.
Writing Award - Elsie for beautiful pre-cursive handwriting.
Maths Award - Luna for great word problem work this week.
As of 17th May, rules on social mixing have changed. Gathering limits have been eased. Outdoor gatherings are limited to 30 people and indoor gatherings are limited to 6 people or 2 households (each household can include a support bubble, if eligible).
I know we are all looking forward to meeting friends and family, being able to meet indoors rather than getting wet and being cold in each others gardens - but please can I urge you all to take care over the half term holidays as you make plans to meet up. We still all have a huge personal responsibility to keep one another safe and stick to the rules, particularly as case numbers rise significantly in the North West.
The rules for social distancing, mask wearing, hand washing and bubbles in school HAVE NOT and WILL NOT change before the end of the school year. So please - have fun, but stay safe and help to keep us all safe upon our return to school. Many thanks.
Things to remember……
PE continues to be on Monday and Friday - no earrings on these days please
Bring your school water bottle each day
Reading books will be changed on your child’s reading day - we will only be able to send home a basket book each week - Guided Reading books will remain in school. We still have to quarantine books for 72 hours before they are sent home to anyone else. This limits the number of books we have to send home. Please sign your child’s reading record when they read at home.
Please keep your child at home if they are unwell - we must all play our part to keep the bubble safe.
School closes at 1.15pm for all children on Friday’s.
And finally, have a wonderful half term holiday, stay safe…..Mrs Hollinghurst, Mrs Veasey and Miss Collins
A few pictures of our week…..
Thank-you SO much for your support over the last half term - life is as hectic as ever, but it is important to stop and take stock from time to time and say thank-you. Thank-you. God Bless.
