Good morning all…..I hope you have had a lovely weekend and are enjoying spending all this quality time together. There are may uncertainties in the world right now, so let us take comfort in the true and certain knowledge that we are loved. We are loved by God, our families, our friends and you are all loved by our school community. Year 1….be strong and pray to the Lord to help us through. We can do this! We are stronger than we know and the love of the Lord and our amazing families will see us through.

We are now into Week 8 of our Home Learning Plans…..unfortunately we do not yet have the next Pie Corbett unit, there has been some delay with these units. As such, either continue with last week’s if you still have work to do on it, or follow the Week 8 English Tasks on the main Home Learning Plan. I will add it to this blog as soon as it comes through and I will let you know by text that it is there. Just in case I don’t get those resources for the start of this week, I have added another English resource to the blog for you to use instead - this is from Hamilton and the resource is on Super Hero’s - thought it was a nice theme that would appeal to the children. I will add the Pie Corbett resources as soon as I can….don’t feel you have to use both; it’s an either or!

English Resources - Super Hero’s

Pie Corbett materials have just been sent through….here they are! But if you prefer the Hamiliton Super Hero theme, please feel free to use that instead…just don’t do both.

Pie Corbett Talk for Writing Materials

Week 8 Plan - this week all about Famous and Significant People. This is a lovely plan all about looking into people form the past who have shaped our future. There is plenty of scope for writing activities this week and research into a number of people mentioned in the plan….such as Florence Nightingale, Mary Seacole and Elizabeth 1. This last one would be great for Yr1 due to our class work on Queen Victoria and Elizabeth II - work into Elizabeth I would be great, then they could compare the two Elizabeth’s!! See the plan at the bottom of the blog, but also BBC Bite Size is fab for appropriate research materials for Yr1 and has some great info on Elizabeth. Just follow the link below.

Maths - please follow the White Rose Materials (Links at the bottom of the blog). This week we are looking at comparing length and height.

Oddizzi - this week’s plan is all about Global Knowledge - please find the link to the unit at the bottom of the blog.

English - hope you have found the Oxford Owl and Bitesize resources helpful with reading and phonics, I have added the links again so you can continue to use those. Please keep up with your daily reading, phonics, spelling of common exception words and handwriting practice. I have also added the link to the YouTube video of the Set2/3 sounds that we go over each day in RWI lessons - just so the children can continue to practice their sounds! I will add the Pie Corbett materails as soon as they are made available.

Don’t forget the SumDog Challenges - this week Maths and Grammar challenges have been added. Well done to all of the children who are accessing these sites - I can see how well you are doing with these challenges. If your child hasn’t accessed these yet, please take a look. If you can’t remember your password, just email me using the Year 1 email and I will send it back to you.

I know a lot of you are looking at Fr Jim’s site - please continue to do so, he is always on had to offer us spiritual guidance at this difficult time. Remember the prayers that Miss Haggerty adds to the general page too - these are a great focus for our prayers.

Thank-you, one again, for the amazing work that you are doing at home with your children. Please continue topost this on Class Dojo in the Porfolio section - these are now amazing records of all that your child has done in the last 8 weeks. If you haven’t accessed Class Dojo it isn’t too late - just send me your email through the Year 1 email address(at the bottom of the blog) and I will add you in! You can then send me pictures and messages of all that you are up to at home. I am so humbled by all that you are doing. The children are working so hard and I am very proud of each and every one of them, but I know they could not do it without your unfailing support. I am truly grateful. Thank-you.

Year 1….say a big THANK-YOU to your Mummy and Daddy for helping you with your work. Be good, work hard and stay safe…..remember Mrs Veasey and I miss you and we are really proud of you.

Any problems, questions, queries, just email me at year1@our-lady.blackpool.sch.uk

Have a lovely week….Mrs Hollinghurst and Mrs Veasey
