It is never too late to turn towards the Lord and in these uncertain times, we need His love more than ever. We are talked this week about how we can be good role models to others and the sort of people we should look towards to be role models to us. Our ultimate role model is Jesus and we are trying very hard to be like Him.

HAND WASHING - we are stressing the importance of hand washing with the children. The school nurse came in a couple of weeks ago to discuss the importance of hand washing, using a tissue and covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze. The children have been told to sing Happy Birthday twice whilst washing their hands - works out about 20 seconds - but please can you stress the importance of this with your child. We must do all we can to minimise the spread of any infection. Thank-you so much with your help on this matter.

This week we are celebrating the achievements of…..

Golden Award - Harriet for producing beautiful work of a high standard across all curriculum areas.

Writing Award - Sienna for a super effort in independent writing and an improvement in handwriting formation

Maths Award -

This week we have been learning….

English - along with our RWI work we have been looking at long vowel sounds and special friends who chat too much and need separating! o -e and i - e in home, phone, like, bike. These are a number of our tricky phonic sounds.

Maths - we have been looking at comparing numbers up to 20, ordering them and even stated to add them together using word problems! A busy week.

RE - we have discussed the first friends of Jesus and how brave they were to ‘Follow Him’ - we have written the story from their point of view and thought about what we would have done.

Science - we continued to look at the seasons, this week thinking about which months fall into which season.

Topic - this week we looked at facts about Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II and see if we could attach them to the correct queen!

YEAR 1 TRIP - tomorrow (Friday) the children will come home with details for our next school trip! I will not spoil the surprise as I have not told the children yet…..but the cost is being heavily subsidised by the PFTA. They have kindly offered to pay for the coach - a major expense - so THANK-YOU SO MUCH. The cost to parents would be so much higher to you without their help. LOOK OUT FOR THE LETTER COMING HOME WITH YOUR CHILD TOMORROW NIGHT!

Keep up with the reading at home and please sign your child’s reading record.

Have a lovely weekend…Mrs Hollinghurst and the Year 1 team
