Yoga started for Year 1 on Tuesday and it was lovey to see how the children responded to the session taught by Mrs Ward - a yoga teacher. In this increasingly busy world, quiet, peace, calm and stillness can often be hard to come across. These are things that are just as important for the children as they are for us. We have made a promising start! We have just three more sessions, but hopefully it will spark an interest in the children that we can continue with in class.

All the children have worked hard this week, but these are the pupils that we are particularly celebrating…

Golden Award - Oscar for setting a perfect example in Year 1 - lovely manners and always ready to learn

Writing Award - Lola Mae for fab phonics work that is supporting independent writing

Maths Award -

This week we have been learning….

English - we have been continuing with our RWI groups, focusing on phonics, writing, reading and speaking. Some of the children have changed groups due to our last assessment. All of the children are being supported at their level. We have nearly made our way through the whole alphabet learning our pre-cursive letters - the its all about the practice!

Maths - we have continued with our part part whole work - this week focusing on writing a ‘fact family’ of number sentences along with investigating how many different ways we can find of making the same number.

Science - this week we about the five things all animals need to survive

RE - this week we focused on Mary as part of our new topic, Mary Our mother. We thought about what we know about this special lady and have stated to learn to Hail Mary prayer.

Geography - this week we investigated the sea creatures that live in the North/Irish seas - I have to say I was surprised myself by the abundance of life in the seas that surround the UK!

REMINDERS - children cannot wear nail varnish for school. Please remove this before they come to school. Please ensure you sign your child’s reading record when they read at home - it is the only record we have of them home reading. If your child is wearing trainers for PE with laces, they MUST be able to tie these - thank-you.

Nativity - TUESDAY 17TH DECEMBER 9.30AM AND 2.15PM - both performances will be ticketed - purely down to the space we have available in the school hall. Each child will be sent two tickets for each performance.

Have a lovely weekend…..Mrs Hollinghurst and the Year 1 team
