Good afternoon everyone,
This week we heard Jesus' Sermon on the Mount in which He teaches us how to be the best Christians we can be. We talked about what it means to be blessed and how Jesus teaches us that we may face problems and challenges while trying to do what Jesus teaches but we will have our reward in heaven.

English - We continue working hard in our Read Write Inc groups.
Maths - In Maths we continued our work on money. We counted amounts in pounds and pence, and made amounts in pounds and pence with coins and notes.
Science - In Science we learned about a woodland habitat. We designed our own imaginary animal which had lots of important traits to adapt it to a woodland habitat.
RE - We explored the story of Jesus calming the storm. We discussed how this showed us that Jesus was truly God but also that it showed He was a human being too. We asked for help from Jesus to guide us through our own stormy times. We also looked at the parable of the lost sheep and considered the meaning of this.
Geography - We learned about the African island nation of Cape Verde. We created travel brochures to describe its key features.
PE - In our outdoor PE we practised net and wall batting games and our indoor PE was gymnastics skills.
Computing - We applied our coding skills to an online game called Coding for Carrots.

Regular Tasks
Please continue to practise counting in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s and reading the Year 1 and Year 2 common exception words every week. This is so important for our learning!
Times Table Rockstars - You should have all received a login and password for Times Table Rockstars to use at home. Please play this as regularly as possible to improve and develop multiplication speed.
Other Tasks
Spelling
This week we are practising tricky common exception words. I have given more to learn for both groups than will be on the test and this is to help children remember the words and not just recall them for their test.
Maths
Making amounts worksheet.
Reading
All About Beaches reading comprehension.
Addition and Subtraction
Earlier last week I sent home some letters to several families with QR codes to practise addition and subtraction. It seems these QR codes no longer work so I am placing the link to both videos below so you can still access them.
You do not need to return completed homework to school. It is set so you can see what your child is learning about during the week. However, I am happy to look at any completed work if you want it be checked.

We are all taking our reading quiz and this has given us a book level (known as ZPD). This allows us to give the children reading books which are at the best level for them in regards to both word reading but also their ability to remember and explain what they have read. We will do these reading quizzes at the beginning and end of every half term.
Please read as often as possible at home. It is the most important piece of work you can do with your child to support their learning.

On Tuesday (10th February), it is Safer Internet Day and in school we will be dedicating some time in the day around the theme ‘Smart tech, safe choices – Exploring the safe and responsible use of AI’.
Keeping children and young people safe online is one of the biggest challenges facing society today and it is all of our responsibility to ensure that children are educated to make positive, informed choices when they are online. Below are some links and safety guides which you may find useful:
