This Week's Worship

This week's worship was led beautifully by Alexander, William and Gabriel. They reflected on the Beatitudes that Jesus shared during His Sermon on the Mount. In a moment of sacred silence, they had the class reflect on the ways in which they have shown the values of the Kingdom of God this week.

This Week's Learning

Many of our morning  English and Maths lessons this week have been used to sit some more practice SATs papers. Once again, Year 6 approached these papers with so much focus and gave each paper their all. I think the general census was that the reading paper was up there as one the hardest ones they've done so far! Not to worry though, we will spend time in our SATs rotation groups next week going over each of the papers and tackling those harder questions! Next week each child will come home with their most recent tests scores, so you can see where they are at too! Any questions about their score, do not hesitate to contact me.

In PE we finalised our dance routine and practiced it from start to finish. We then performed this to Year 5, who thoroughly enjoyed it!

In Science we started our lesson by writing up a conclusion based on our investigation from last week. We then looked at how the refection of light on a mirror enables us to see things that are not in our direct line of sight. A prime example of this is a periscope. We made our own periscopes to prove that light does change direction when it reflects off certain surfaces, and this enables us to see things that are not in front of us. Next week we will draw scientific diagrams to show this too.

In Music this week Mrs Owen continued this half term's unit based around the Pharrell Williams song, 'Happy'. In this week's lesson they played glockenspiels to the music.

In RE this week we were using some theological vocabulary to explore how scripture passages show us that Jesus is truly human and truly God. We looked at the story of the healing of the Officer's son, and how Jesus' actions reveal, yet again, who He truly is. We then wrote a thank you letter, in the role of the officer, to express our gratitude to Jesus for what he had done, and how this reflected his beliefs about Jesus.

In Art we were inspired by the art of Romero Britto to create our own piece of religious art. We linked it in with our RE learning of John's Gospel and Jesus' divinity. In our lesson today we applied oil pastels to our art work.

AWARD WINNERS!

Golden Award (LEARN): this week’s Golden Award went to ALL of year 6. Yet again, they have given their all to our practice SATs papers this week so I could not single just one of them out for their efforts!

Maths Award: this week’s Maths Award went to Stephen for his superb arithmetic and decimal work this week!

Notices

  • PE days are Wednesdays and Thursday this half term.
  • Reading books -  Please do keep up with home reading as this will help to see that progress with each Star Reading test taken. We do want the children to challenge themselves with their home readers too, so please do let me know if you ever think the book they are reading at home is perhaps not challenging enough.
  • Homework- Please can you remind your child at home about their homework, which is always due for Thursday morning. I noticed this week that many children in the class had not completed any of their online learning when I checked on Wednesday, leaving them with just one evening to complete it all. Sadly, even after a text reminder, there were still some children who did  not complete all of their homework.
  • Contact information- We no longer access the year group email (year6@…) If you need to contact me for any reason, and cannot catch me at the door, feel free to either pop an email to the admin address (with Year 6 in the subject box) or give the school a ring.
