Our learning this week…

English- we have worked collaboratively to draft our diary entries, sharing ideas about our chosen characters feelings in the scenes we had previously explored through drama. We are now editing this draft to ensure we have included all the technical elements required for year 4.

Maths- We are practising our times tables and are having fun clapping the rhythm of the calculation. We have also been looking at formal multiplication methods for 3 digit multiplied by 1 digit and how we can apply this to word problems. Our 5-aday fluency is improving - keep it up!

Science- Exciting times! We have planned an experiment to explore melting points now that we can explain what happens in different states of matter.

RE-  We have created a newspaper report telling the story of how Simon Peter became the 'rock' on which jesus would build his Church.

Geography- Please complete the survey ready for the next lesson on our local area.

General News

Following on from Storytelling Week, and to  help celebrate the National Year of Reading 2026, The National Literacy Trust in Blackpool has offered year 4 a series of song writing workshops, delivered in partnership with Upbeat Rock Academy, a local music academy based in Blackpool.

The project will help children to "go all in", connecting literacy, creative writing, and music, to help pupils express themselves through words and performance. Taking place in February and March, year 4 will be able to participate in three classroom workshops, followed by a recording session, providing a platform to hear their ideas come to life as a finished song and video. We are very fortunate as this offer is only available to 3 Blackpool schools and Mrs Ormerod wanted year 4 to take part as it is a lovely opportunity for our pupils to take part in this special project.

There will be 3 x 1 hr sessions in school. These will focus on literacy, song writing and getting the yr 4 class to write their own short song. The sessions will be led by an Upbeat staff member.

The 4th session will be a 2 hr recording session so all the children can have a go at singing the song. This will ideally take place at Upbeat Rock Academy so the children can experience being in a recording studio.

The end result will be a recorded song and hopefully video as Upbeat will video the session as well.

The first session will be on the week commencing 9th Feb.

I am very excited to see what we produce!

The BEBCMAT Rock Stars Super League has a new competition, which started on Monday and runs till the 12th February. Good luck everyone!

Our school is currently in 4th place out of 15 schools in the trust and we have scored 806 points (school average score) so far.

At Our Lady's we like to support our parents/carers in Online Safety matters.

Keeping children and young people safe online is one of the biggest challenges facing society today and it is all of our responsibility to ensure that children are educated to make positive, informed choices when they are online.

This month’s online safety guide gives helpful advice about…

What Parents and Educators Need to Know about Roblox A #WakeUpWednesday guide examining Roblox’s user-created games, highlighting risks around chat, spending and excessive play for children.

We hope you find these guides informative and helpful in promoting the positive use of technology to make the online world a better and safer place for us all. Thank you.
