Shared Worship
A huge thank you to Elsie and Hallie for leading this week's worship so peacefully anf respectfully. Their bible reading this week was about Jesus' baptism. They shared this gospel reading before asking the class to reflect on the ways that they can show the Holy Spirit is within them. Each child took it in turn to hold an image of a dove, close their eyes, and think of what they can do to show the presence of the Holy Spirit through their words and actions.

This Week's Learning
In Maths this week the focus at the start of the week was on finding decimal equivalents of fraction by doing the division. For example to find 3/8, we realised we can actually do 3 divided by 8! We then looked at when we might use this method and when we would acutally be able to find the decimal equivalent without having to do a division. We ended the week focused on finding the area of squares, recatangles and compound shapes.
In English we have spent every English lesson on our shared write. We are writing a narrative based on the Wizard of Oz. We managed to write most of our narrative this week, and next week we will then be ready to plan and write our version independently.
In PE with me this week we continued our dance lesson. We have now put together our whole class routine at the beginning, followed by partner routines and then back to a whole class routine. This is all choreographed to the song 'Starman' by David Bowie.
In Science we completed an end of topic test on Living Things and started our new unit on Light. Although we did not get anything written down in this first lesson, we did prove one thing: light travels in straight lines! In our next lesson, we will be drawing scientific diagrams to show this.
In Computing this week we completed our presentations on Bletchley Park and some of us had a chance to present these to the rest of the class.
In RE this week we started our new RE unit 'Galilee to Jerusalem'. In this first lesson we were focused on the seven sacraments of the Catholic church. We had a carousel-style lesson, where each group went from table-to-table reading up on each of the sacraments and filling in theie sacraments booklet.
SATs rotation groups
This week we had our first SATs rotation. For the whole of Friday morning each group (the class have been divided into 3 smaller groups) spent 1 hour focusing on one of the three SATs areas: maths, reading and GPS. Mr Duffy led the Maths group, I (Mrs Murphy) led the Reading group and Mrs Owen led the GPS group. The class really enjoyed the layout of the morning and having the opportunity to focus on each of the SATs papers and the different types of questions. Moving forward, we are hoping to have this rotation at least once a week.

Notices
- PE days are Wednesdays and Thursday this half term.
- Reading books - Year 6 completed their STAR Reading test on Tuesday and have their new ZPDs. Quite a few children have stayed on the same ZPD as before Christmas. I would really be hoping to see each child moving up the ZPDs with each new test they do. Please do keep up with home reading as this will help to see that progress with each test taken. We do want the children to challenge themselves with their home readers too, so please do let me know if you ever think the book they are reading at home is perhaps not challenging enough.
- Homework- Please find details on this week’s homework here. If your child very finds any of the homework challenging, please remind them to mention it to me in school and we can go over it together. I am still using Learning by Questions as the Maths and English online resource and spellings this week have been taken from the Read, Write, Inc Spelling scheme that we use in class, rather than the Year 5/6 spelling list.
- Contact information- We no longer access the year group email (year6@…) If you need to contact me for any reason, and cannot catch me at the door, feel free to either pop an email to the admin address (with Year 6 in the subject box) or give the school a ring.
