To begin our new half term, the whole school went to mass to celebrate the feast of All Saints. All Saints’ Day is celebrated every year on 1st November; it is a holy day in the Catholic Church, celebrating the saints of the church as well as those saints who have not yet been recognised.

During mass, the Gospel reading was the Sermon on the Mount, which was also the focus of our prayer and liturgy this week planned and led by Finlay and Annie. The Gospel is about the special blessings Jesus talks about in the Bible, called the Beatitudes. These are ways Jesus teaches us to live — being kind, gentle, peaceful, and standing up for what is right. Jesus says that people who live this way are truly blessed by God, even when life is hard.

Every time we choose to be kind, fair, gentle, or peaceful, we are living the way Jesus taught us. Let’s try to grow in these ways and help each other to live out the Beatitudes every day. Just like the one man who came back to thank Jesus, we can remember to say thank you too. When we are thankful, we become more joyful and more aware of God’s goodness in our lives.

Culture Fest

This week, we were lucky to be involved in a series of global Music workshops, which were held in schools across Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre, delivered by six musicians performing music from Africa, Arabia, Colombia, Zaire, and Stomp Percussion from the UK.  In Year 5, we had workshops in singing and drumming from musicians from Colombia and Africa. The children had a great time.

Thank you to those children and parents who were able to join us at the Winter Gardens last night for an interactive concert performance from all six musicians.

Our award winners:

Our learning this week…

In English, we’ve started our new writing unit on reports, continuing to use the moon landings as our theme. We’ve been exploring new vocabulary and looking at formal language in more detail, comparing it to more informal language.

Our focus in maths has been multiples and factors of numbers.

In RE, we have recapped our work from last half term and have begun to look at who David is and how God called him (1 Samuel 16:1-13).

In Spanish we have been learning to express the date.

In PE the children are working with PE specialist from Blackpool Football Club Community Trust.

At Our Lady's we like to support our parents/carers in Online Safety matters.

Keeping children and young people safe online is one of the biggest challenges facing society today and it is all of our responsibility to ensure that children are educated to make positive, informed choices when they are online.

This month’s online safety guide gives helpful advice about…

What Parents & Educators Need to Know about Pokémon TCG Pocket. This free online safety guide examines Pokémon TCG Pocket, the mobile version of the popular trading card game. While fun and educational, its addictive pack-opening and spending pressures can create risks for young players.
