Year 6 Worship
Thank you to William, Alexander and Gabriel for leading this week's worship. The Gospel reading this week was all about giving God thanks, highlighted through the bible story, The Healing of the 10 Lepers. The boys gathered the class as everyone listened and then responded to the words from the Gospel. They then asked the class to go forth and show gratitude to God through their words and actions this week.
Whole School Harvest Assembly
On Monday, we gathered together as a whole school to celebrate harvest. All of the food/toiletry donations were on display at the front of the hall – thank you again to all that contributed to this. We then had lovely little reflections led by each year group, starting with Reception. Each class presented either a song, prayer of poem to the rest of the school. In Year 6 we read a Harvest poem of thanks.
In RE this week we have been discussing how sin damages the relationship between God, each other and the world around us. We looked at statements and had to decide whether they were 'before sin' or 'after sin'. We then had to take on the role as doctor and write a medical report for our patient: humanity. Our patient's issue was that they have made wrong choices and sinned. The symptoms involved turning their back on God, being hurtful towards others through words and actions and harming God's creation (along with any others!). We then had to write a diagnosis, and how humanity can help cure themselves of sin: how can they turn things around?
Here is what we have been up to this week…
Practice SATs papers
This week I have been one proud teacher! The class have completed their first set of practice papers in class. We have done a GPS, Reading the Maths papers throughout the week. I know this has been challenging for many children in the class but each and every one of them has given each paper their all. I have already explained to class that these first papers are to see where their gaps are and what we need to focus on more in class. They need not worry at this point if there were areas they found particularly tricky; we will do all we can to plug those gaps! Well done again, Year 6!
In Maths we have been looking at missing angles on straight lines and in triangles. We also looked at the names and properties of different triangles.
In English we have have use our time to write up our biographies, ready to be displayed.
In Science we planned, did and recorded the results of an investigation: how can different physical activities affect our heart rate? After planning the investigation, each child had to complete 1 minute of four different exercises, recording their heart rate (beats per min.) after each one. There were many things we had to do to ensure it was a fair test too. Next week, we will analyse our results!
In Computing we continued using Scratch coding for brute force hacking. The class had to create a script to get the sprite to correctly guess a 4 digit code. They quickly realised that the slightest bug in this coding, meant it would not work, so they had to go back and debug.
Mini Vinnies
This week Mrs Allen received everyone's letter of applications from those interested in being an Our Lady's Mini Vinnie. Once she has been through these and selected the group, the first official meeting will be on Monday.

Notices
-
PE days- Wednesdays this half term.
-
Water bottles-these need to be filled and brought in each day and taken home to be cleaned at the end of each day. Each child in the class was provided with a school water bottle-please can you ensure these are the bottles that are brought in daily and not their own water bottle from home.
-
Reading books - we have now completed our STAR Reading tests and each child has been given their ZPD range. I have mentioned to the children that I would like them to be challenged by their home reading books, so to focus on the upper end of their ZPD range. If they do find any of these books too tricky and it takes away the pleasure, they just need to tell me and we will find a more suited text.
-
Homework- Please find details on this week’s homework here. If your child very finds any of the homework challenging, please remind them to mention it to me in school and we can go over it together.
-
Contact information- We no longer access the year group email (year6@…) If you need to contact me for any reason, and cannot catch me at the door, feel free to either pop an email to the admin address (with Year 6 in the subject box) or give the school a ring.
Our Lady's Online Safety
At Our Lady's we like to support our parents/carers in Online Safety matters.
Keeping children and young people safe online is one of the biggest challenges facing society today and it is all of our responsibility to ensure that children are educated to make positive, informed choices when they are online.
This month’s online safety guide gives helpful advice about…
What Parents & Educators Need to Know about Memes. Memes may seem like harmless fun, but they can carry hidden risks. This guide explores how meme culture affects young people - from misinformation to inappropriate content and digital footprints.
We hope you find these guides informative and helpful in promoting the positive use of technology to make the online world a better and safer place for us all. Thank you.
