In RE this week we focused on Jesus’ journey into Jerusalem, which we celebrate on palm Sunday. We know that this event preceded the Passion of Christ, and it was a joyous moment for the people of Jerusalem who welcomed Jesus, their Messiah. Jesus was God’s promise of a saviour fulfilled and the people of Jerusalem acknowledge Jesus as this promise. Not everyone, however, was as excited by Jesus’ arrival. We focused on a image of Jesus’s arrival into Jerusalem and describe the thoughts and feelings of the different people in the image; this included the people of Jerusalem, the religious leaders and Jesus himself.

Here is what else we have been up to….

This week have continued with our SATS booster lessons on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday morning. Mrs Owen and Mrs Ormerod have continued to build and develop Year 6’s reading skills and GPS understanding. They are focusing on how to answer some of the questions, in order to achieve the marks. In Maths, I have focused on drawing angles using a protractor, time and nets of 3D shapes. We will be sitting some mock SATs papers every morning next week, up until Thursday. These will be sat in the school hall to give the class a real feeling of what it will be like on the actual week of SATs. I will communicate these SATs scores with each parent before we break up for Easter.

In our Maths lesson our focus has been pie charts and percentages and calculating the mean.

In English we started a new unit; this is on discovery narratives. We will be using two vehicle texts, centred around Charles Darwin’s life and discoveries, to help us to produce quality pieces of writing. This week we made predictions and explored some new vocabulary and phrases.

In Science we started a new topic on Light. We used a demonstration of a torch and a cardboard tube to prove that light travels in straight lines. When we had the tube straight we could clearly see the light through the both side, when we shone a torch through it. When we bent the tube, however, we could no longer see the light. This proved two things: light cannot bend (it travels in straight lines) and light cannot travel through opaque objects. We then drew some scientific diagrams in our books.

Here are some pictures of us with our Sacred Art pieces of work….

Our Lady’s sponsored run to Rome–raising money for CAFOD

As a school we are together going to run the distance from our school to The Vatican in Rome. We will be doing this by running laps around our field. Together we will run a distance of 2180km.

Our running club have launched the event by running 122 laps and they have pledged to run 1000 more laps.

Each class has been given a target number of laps to run - Year 6 will be running 30 each before Friday 25th April, when we will celebrate reaching our total and will be sending Miss Heim Sarac off on her London Marathon Event. Miss Heim- Sarac is running for CAFOD  Please support us by sponsoring the run.

We would ask parents to collect sponsorship from friends and family and then pay the total amount through your child’s parentpay account. This event will be added to parentpay account ‘Run to Rome for Cafod’ in order for proceeds to be sent directly to CAFOD as we are now a cashless school. Please can all sponsorship forms be returned by Tuesday 22nd April 2025. Thank you for your support.

🖥Online Safety at Our Lady’s

At Our Lady's we like to support our parents/carers in Online Safety matters.

Keeping children and young people safe online is one of the biggest challenges facing society today and it is all of our responsibility to ensure that children are educated to make positive, informed choices when they are online.

This month’s online safety guide gives helpful advice about…

What Parents & Educators Need to Know about Bluesky Social App. This free guide discusses the growing popularity of Bluesky, a public-first microblogging social media platform, and explores what parents and educators can do to ensure children's safety when using the app.

We hope you find these guides informative and helpful in promoting the positive use of technology to make the online world a better and safer place for us all. Thank you.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Mrs Murphy, Mrs Ormerod & Mrs Owen
