Our learning this week…

In English the children have improved their 1969 lunar landing paragraphs. They’ve also been identifying tense and changing our writing between present and past tense. We’ve also been reading about Neil Armstrong and thinking about his character.

Our focus in maths has been partitioning 5-digit numbers and then placing numbers on a number line.

In RE the children have been working with Mrs Mannix on the Creation story.

This week’s prayer and liturgy was planned and led by Ellenie and Gabriel. The theme of their liturgy was Walk in His presence. In the Gospel (Mark 8:27 - 35) , Jesus confounded the expectations of His disciples. It helps us learn that God’s plans can be surprising and that following Jesus involves expecting the unexpected. The children challenged the children to think about how they can walk with Jesus this week.

“You are the Messiah" Mark 8:29

In science we have been learning about how day and night occur.

In Spanish we have focused on greeting each otherand developing our knowledge of counting in Spanish.

In art we continued to develop our work on Hundertwasser .

In PE the children are working with PE specialist Charlie from Blackpool Football Club Community Trust. The focus of their lessons this half term is all about leadership and being a good buddy to develop their skills for their role as play leader.

Homework

A reminder that a summary of this week’s homework can be found on the Year 5 homework page. Please make sure homework is completed by Tuesday, ready for spelling and times table tests. Don’t forget that we are also part of the BEBCMAT Rock Stars Super League.

Each half term, the schools within the trust compete with each other on TTRS. This half term’s competition is already underway but we can still do our best to get as many points as we can from now till the 18th October. In addition to this, during our Celebration assembly on a Friday, our leaderboard will be announced. Please see the poster. Good luck everyone! See poster

Our school is currently in 4th place out of 12 schools in the trust. We have 414 points.

At Our Lady's we like to support our parents/carers in Online Safety matters.

Keeping children and young people safe online is one of the biggest challenges facing society today and it is all of our responsibility to ensure that children are educated to make positive, informed choices when they are online.

This month’s online safety guide gives helpful advice about…

What Parents & Educators Need to Know about Final Fantasy XIV  This free guide covers the risks of the popular video game Final Fantasy XIV, as well as letting you know how to help young players safely enjoy this MMORPG.

We hope you find these guides informative and helpful in promoting the positive use of technology to make the online world a better and safer place for us all. Thank you.
