Yesterday we celebrated World Book Day. Thanks for supporting us with this event - the children all looked fantastic dressed up in the costume of their favourite book characters. In the morning we joined a live World Book Day event - Footy & Booky Quiz delivered by the National Literacy Strategy in conjunction with Premier League Primary Stars. The children really enjoyed the quiz with questions on books and football and many got all of them right! The children were also given the opportunity to share their book and character costume with the whole class and they wrote book reviews to place in our book corner. đź“š
Lenten Book challengeđź“š
Year 5 have continued to amaze me with their eagerness to read our Lenten challenge books. This week many children have finished their books and elected to read another, which is amazing! If your child has still not finished their first Lenten book, please continue to encourage them to read their chosen book to enable them to enjoy our book club at the end of term.
Well done to those who have already completed some of the books!🤩👏🏻

Our learning this week…
In English we have explored some of the character relationships in a Midsummer Night’s Dream. From this work, the children have been writing diary entries from the point of view of one of the characters and have also had a go at “Agony Aunt” style letter writing.
In maths this week we have begun to look at finding the perimeter of rectangles.
In RE we have read about the truly inspirational Saint Bakhita, who lived out the Beatitude, “Blessed are the are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy”. We read about her difficult life and how when she started to learn about God, she understood that she had to forgive the people who treated her badly and to pray for them.
This week’s prayer and liturgy was planned and led by Gabriel, Kurt and Oscar. Their liturgy was on the theme of Jesus Clears the Temple Courts based on the reading from John 2: 13-25, where we hear that Jesus was upset with the money lenders in the temple so turned over the tables and drove them out. The prayers helped the children to reflect on injustice and how they can play their part in putting things right by choosing God’s way.
“Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.” John 2: 9
In geography the children are working with Mrs Mannix and have begun looking at their new topic on latitude and longitude.
In PE the children are working with PE specialist Erin from Blackpool Football Club Community Trust. The focus of their lessons this half term is rounders.
In computing the children have continued to explore using a micro-bit to execute code.
