"Lest we forget" Remembrance day
Tomorrow at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, it marks the signing of the Armistice – an agreement to end the First World War. This week Year 5 have spent time thinking about all those people in the armed forces who have sacrificed so much to protect their country and we made our own poppies and wrote a prayer of remembrance. This morning we joined the whole school in a remembrance assembly, led by Year 6, to hold one minutes silence as a sign of respect.
Our award winners:

Our learning this week…
In English the children have been writing their own exploration narratives and I’ve been really impressed with the work they’ve done so far. It’s been lovely to see the careful vocabulary choices they have made and the descriptions they have included to give clear pictures to the reader. I look forward to reading the finished versions. 😊
In maths the children have learnt about negative numbers and their relationship with positive numbers and have counted forwards and backwards in steps of 10, 100, 1,000 and 10,000 to identify number sequences.
In RE, the children have been looking at the life of Saint Francis and have been thinking about the things that he did that made him a good steward of creation.
The focus of our science lessons this half term is Forces. This week they have investigated gravity and the influence gravity has on the universe. They have also explored the life and work of Isaac Newton.
In history the children are continuing to learn about the Ancient Greeks.
In PE the children are working with PE specialist Erin from Blackpool Football Club Community Trust. The focus of their lessons this half term is invasion games: Rugby.
Our Year 5 worship this week was led by Mia and Rosie. Their worship was on the theme of Faith and making time for God. They reminded Year 5 that when we make time for God, and even if we don’t know what to say, the Holy Spirit will help us. Well done Mia and Rosie!

At Our Lady's we like to support our parents/carers in Online Safety matters.
Keeping children and young people safe online is one of the biggest challenges facing society today and it is all of our responsibility to ensure that children are educated to make positive, informed choices when they are online.
This month’s online safety guide gives helpful advice about…
microtransactions – those in-app or in-game purchases which can tempt young users into regular online spending.
We hope you find these guides informative and helpful in promoting the positive use of technology to make the online world a better and safer place for us all.
