Yesterday was so exciting… we had a visit from the world-renowned author and cartoonist, Jeff Kinney. Jeff Kinney is the writer of the bestselling “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” series - a favourite of many of the children. This had all been made possible as part of our work to re-launch our library space in conjunction with the National Literacy Trust. Jeff came in and hosted The No Brainer Show , which was game show-style and several of the children, and some teachers, were invited to join Jeff at the front to play the games and a chance to win his new Diary of a Wimpy Kid book No Brainer. Have a look at all the fun we had…

Our learning this week…
In English we have begun a new unit of writing. This week the children have worked in small groups to create a radio transcript of a moon landing and have explored new vocabulary from our vehicle text.
In maths the children have been using the written column method to add whole numbers with more than 4 digits.
In RE, the children have been looking at the life of Saint Francis and have been thinking about how it could shape the way they treat the world and everything in it.
In history the children are continuing to learn about the Ancient Greeks.
In Spanish we have consolidated the nouns and definite articles/determiners for members of the family in Spanish and to learn how to use the possessive adjective ’my’ in Spanish with increasing accuracy and understanding.
In PE the children are working with PE specialist Erin from Blackpool Football Club Community Trust. The focus of their lessons this half term is invasion games: Rugby.
Our Year 5 worship this week was led by Lilly and Corben. Their worship was on the theme of Peace. They reminded Year 5 that the Bible commands us to seek peace and says that peacemakers are blessed. Well done Lilly and Corben!
“Peace I leave with you:my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27
At Our Lady's we like to support our parents/carers in Online Safety matters.
Keeping children and young people safe online is one of the biggest challenges facing society today and it is all of our responsibility to ensure that children are educated to make positive, informed choices when they are online.
This month’s online safety guide gives helpful advice about…
microtransactions – those in-app or in-game purchases which can tempt young users into regular online spending.
We hope you find these guides informative and helpful in promoting the positive use of technology to make the online world a better and safer place for us all.
