Good afternoon everyone,
This week in our liturgies we have been talking about how Jesus has called us to follow Him, just as he did his disciples. We thought about what it means to follow Jesus and how we can follow His example by showing kindness, care, respect and forgiveness to others. We focused upon centring prayers to help us to feel closer to God and be at peace in His presence.
English - In English we completed an edited our Circular Narratives and they are fantastic! We have now moved onto our new unit and new story (yet to be revealed…) and looked at clues to make predictions about what we thought the story might be about.
Maths - In Maths we have begun our new unit on money. We have recognised and identifed all coins and notes in our money and have moved onto counting coins. Thinking about how we can draw the coins in order from largest to smallest value to make this easier.
Science - In Science we learned about one of our local habitats, the coast. We explored coastal birds, shore life and shallow water life and thought about the various ways they are adapted to their habitat.
RE - In RE, we have been identifying the importance of being thankful and the ways the Bible explains we can show this. We have also be looking at the story of the Feeding of the 5000.
History - We learned about Florence Nightingale and how she improved medicine and nursing. We wrote historical arguments to discuss whether or not she deserves to be remembered on a ten pound note.
PE - Our Wednesday PE session focused upon using tennis rackets to control a tennis ball. Our Friday PE session saw us looking at dribbling skills and passing skills.
Computing - We began to explore the copy and paste function which we will continue next week.
Art -
Please continue to practise counting in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s.
Please practise the year 1 and year 2 common exception words sent home before half term. The children need to be able to read and write (spelling correctly) each one of these by the end of year 2.
Spelling
This week’s spellings are :
the /s/ sound spelt with ‘c’ or ‘ce’ for Mr Whetnall’s group
and
the next set of Y2 common exception words for Mrs Bowdell’s group.
Maths
Counting coins worksheet.
Reading
Florence Nightingale reading comprehension.
Golden Award - Mabel - for her wonderful manners and thoughtfulness towards others.
Writing Award - Aaliyah - for a great circular narrative.
Maths Award - Poppy - for her ‘can do’ attitude towards her maths.
Year 2 PE lessons will take place on Wednesday and Friday. Please come to school in PE kit on these days.
Water bottles - all the children were given a new school bottle. This will come home each night to be cleaned and re-filled. Please only use the school bottles and ensure your child brings theirs each day. Lost water bottles can be replaced at the school office, but I am afraid you will have to pay for those. Year 2 have green tops.
I will not be in class on a Thursday afternoon, as it is my release time. This will be covered by Mrs Bowdell and Miss Andrew and is also when the children will have Music with Mrs Watson.
Party Invitations - I am afraid that Mrs Bowdell and I will not be able to give out party invitations in class. Please do not send your child into class with them for them to give out - it creates upset and fuss about something that takes place outside of school.Thank-you for your understanding with this matter.
Key Rings - please do not put key rings onto your child’s school bag, it creates fuss in class and then upset if they are lost.
School bags - please continue to use the red book bag that your child was given in Reception, we don’t not have the room to store large bags. Many thanks for your help with this matter.
22.3.24 - Time to be confirmed (should be afternoon) - KS1 Palm Liturgy in Church.
Have a lovely weekend,
Mr Whetnall, Mrs Bowdell and Mrs Hall
