Good afternoon everyone,
This week in our liturgies we have been talking about John and how he came to pave the way for Jesus. John baptised people with water when they asked him how they could follow the Lord….but told them that soon someone would come who would baptised them with the love of God. We have learnt about how at the Baptism of Jesus people heard the voice of God for the first time and how the gift of the Hold Spirit was seen through the image of a dove.
English - In English we have planned and created our own setting description of a single setting to help us when we complete our circular narratives. We have also planned and begun to write our own circular narratives, based upon ‘A River’.
Maths - In Maths we continued to focus upon word problems. We have learned how to use vocabulary to solve word problems and have begun to solve problems involving more than 1 step. We have also revisited doubles and number bonds and have used these facts to aid us in adding together 3 single-digit numbers.
Science - In Science we explored a range of world habitats and some of the plants and animals that live in them. We have chosen some habitats and described plants, mammals, birds and other animals which live there.
RE - In RE, we have been learning about the ten lepers. We rewrote the story as a letter to a friend and explored the importance of being thankful; looking at scripture to help us understand why and how we should be thankful.
History - We have compared modern hospitals with those from Victorian times and learned about how much they have changed in the past 150 years.
PE - Our Wednesday PE session developed our understanding of the rules of tennis as we played a doubles tennis match using basketballs to score points. Our Friday PE session saw us continue our focus on kicking and dribbling a ball.
Computing - We developed our knowledge of a keyboard’s home row and typed sentences from books we chose.
Art -
Please continue to practise counting in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s.
Please practise the year 1 and year 2 common exception words sent home before half term. The children need to be able to read and write (spelling correctly) each one of these by the end of year 2.
Spelling
There is no spelling work this week as we begin our practise on times tables. This week please practise the 5 times tables for a test next Friday. Please practise each fact both ways e.g. 4 x 5 = 20 is the same as 5 x 4 = 20 and 9 x 5 = 45 is the same as 5 x 9 = 45.
Maths
Recognising coins and notes work.
English
Unjumble the year 2 common exception words worksheet and correct the spelling mistakes worksheet.
Golden Award - Corey - for his wonderful self-beliefs and for having high expectations of himself in his learning.
Liam - for being much more willing to have a go in his learning.
Writing Award - Coric - for a fantastic opening paragraph in his circular narrative.
Maths Award - Jamie - for having such a positive and confident attitude towards his Maths,
Year 2 PE lessons will take place on Wednesday and Friday. Please come to school in PE kit on these days.
Water bottles - all the children were given a new school bottle. This will come home each night to be cleaned and re-filled. Please only use the school bottles and ensure your child brings theirs each day. Lost water bottles can be replaced at the school office, but I am afraid you will have to pay for those. Year 2 have green tops.
I will not be in class on a Thursday afternoon, as it is my release time. This will be covered by Mrs Bowdell and Miss Andrew and is also when the children will have Music with Mrs Watson.
Party Invitations - I am afraid that Mrs Bowdell and I will not be able to give out party invitations in class. Please do not send your child into class with them for them to give out - it creates upset and fuss about something that takes place outside of school.Thank-you for your understanding with this matter.
Key Rings - please do not put key rings onto your child’s school bag, it creates fuss in class and then upset if they are lost.
School bags - please continue to use the red book bag that your child was given in Reception, we don’t not have the room to store large bags. Many thanks for your help with this matter.
