Good afternoon everyone,
This week our worship has focused on how our actions need to match our words. We listened to the Parable of the Two Sons and thought about how our words mean nothing if we do not do as we say we will. We have challenged ourselves to try and keep our promises, always try our best and aim to help others. If we can do all these things then we will make the world a much happier place. When things are tough and there are things we don’t want to do then we can ask Jesus for his support and guidance to help us make the right choices.
English - We finished our work on the Colour Monster by creating a new section of the story for a new emotion, following the pattern of the previous ones. We then moved onto a new unit, linked to our science work where we are learning all about explanation texts through life cycles. We explored vocabulary and considered its meaning, identified key features of explanation texts and improved our sentences with the use of conjunctions.
Maths - In Maths we continued to compare numbers; challenging ourselves to compare number sentences as well. We then spent some time using our comparison skills to order sequences of numbers in different ways. We learned that we must always look at the tens first and if these are the same, looking at the ones can further help us.We also did some work by counting in 2s.
Science - We learned about the life cycle of a bird, specifically a chicken. We wrote sentences to describe the life cycle.
RE - We looked further into the story of Abraham and Sarah nd thought about Abraham’s feelings and the choices he decided to make because of his beliefs. We then moved on to learn about the story of Baby Moses and identified sad and happy parts in this story.
History - We learned about and sequenced the events of the Great Fire of London, using excerpts from Pepys’ Diary (our primary source of information!) to help us make sense of it all.
PE - Our indoor PE sessions focused upon dance and our outdoor session focused on throwing and catching skills.
Computing - We identified and described a range of technology in the school and considered what makes things be classified as technology.
Art - We explored mark making in different ways to create textures.
This week’s homework has some activities which will be ongoing. I have sent home a number and letter formation sheet to ensure all children are able to form their letters correctly and in the right direction. I will send these home weekly for you to continue to practise.

Year 2 PE lessons will take place on Wednesday and Friday. Please come to school in PE kit on these days.
Water bottles - all the children were given a new school bottle. This will come home each night to be cleaned and re-filled. Please only use the school bottles and ensure your child brings theirs each day. Lost water bottles can be replaced at the school office, but I am afraid you will have to pay for those. Year 2 have green tops.
I will not be in class on a Thursday afternoon, as it is my release time. This will be covered by Mrs Bowdell and Miss Andrew and is also when the children will have Music with Mrs Watson.
Party Invitations - I am afraid that Mrs Bowdell and I will not be able to give out party invitations in class. Please do not send your child into class with them for them to give out - it creates upset and fuss about something that takes place outside of school.Thank-you for your understanding with this matter.
Key Rings - please do not put key rings onto your child’s school bag, it create fuss in class and then upset if they are lost.
School bags - please continue to use the red book bag that your child was given in Reception, we don’t not have the room to store large bags. Many thanks for your help with this matter.
You will have received notification about Parent/Teacher meetings on MONDAY 16th OCTOBER - please make sure you follow the link to make an appointment. This is an important meeting to discuss how your child has settled into Year 2, the progress they are making and what you can do to support them at home. I look forward to seeing you all on this date. Thank you
This year we are collecting tinned food for the local food bank. We are asking each child to bring in one tin for our collection. Please donate, if you can, for this very worthy cause. The children can bring their tins into class, where we have a donation box. Many thanks to those who have donated already
At Our Lady's we like to support our parents/carers in Online Safety matters.
Keeping children and young people safe online is one of the biggest challenges facing society today and it is all of our responsibility to ensure that children are educated to make positive, informed choices when they are online.
This month’s online safety guides give helpful advice about…
Among Us: a futuristic murder mystery that’s found an enthusiastic audience of young gamers.
We hope you find these guides informative and helpful in promoting the positive use of technology to make the online world a better and safer place for us all.
Have a lovely weekend,
Mr Whetnall, Mrs Bowdell and Miss Sanderson
