Good afternoon everyone,
On Saturday we mark the Feast Day of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, 29th June, by learning about these two men and what their lives teach us about the love of God. We learnt that mistakes are always forgiven and nothing is impossible if we have faith in the Lord. Read more about these two men here. St Peter & St Paul.
English - This week we have been busy expanded the details of our made up animals, based upon the Bog Baby and have begun planning an instruction text for how to create a habitat for them.
Maths - In Maths we continued our work on length and height by order and comparing lengths, solving word problems and reading rulers with different scales and missing numbers.
Science - In Science we delved a little deeper into the properties of different materials. We were ‘pitched’ different items and had to decide which material to make these items from whilst explaining the properties that made them most suitable.
RE - We learned about the early Christian communities which came about after Pentecost. We learned the things that they did and how they link to the traditions we have as Christians today. We also looked at important people in our local and wider church communities.
Geography - We explored some of the key physical features of Australia, created our own map keys to place these on maps and learned some interesting facts about them.
PE - This week we had one final sports day practice before our big day! We also continued our gymnastics.
Computing - We used a stop motion program to create a shining effect animation.
Please continue to practise the Year 1 and 2 Common Exception Words - both reading and spelling!
Please practice learning the 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables as later this half term we will be having times table tests on these.
Other Tasks
Spelling Test
Both groups have spellings based upon the -ing suffix. Some words need to have a double consonant before -ing and others need us to drop the e before adding -ing.
I have also included a -le worksheet to develop children’s knowledge of this.
Maths
Length and Height word problems.

We are very excited about our visit to Stanley Park on Tuesday 9th July. You should have received a letter on Thursday to advise you on lunch options. Please return this slip as soon as possible so we can order a lunch.
We will set off from school at about 9.30am so please arrive to school as you normally would. We aim too arrive back to school at around 2.55pm so collection should be as normal as well (traffic permitting!).
For the trip your child will need:
a backpack which they will need to carry.
A waterproof jacket - This is an outdoors trip and we will need to be prepared to be outside, even if the weather changes.
Sun cream - Please apply sun cream in the morning before the trip but we ask that you pack an amount in case this needs topping up.
A sun hat or baseball cap to protect the children from the sun.
Please wear normal school uniform - PE kit and comfortable trainers would be preferable!
Our wet play toys are becoming a little tattered and tired and we are in desperate need of something newer.
If you have any toys, games, figures or playsets that your child no longer uses or has outgrown that you are able to donate to us we would be incredibly grateful.
Thank you in advance!
We had a wonderful Sports Day and thank you for your attendance and support in a morning of very strange weather!
In Key Stage 1, our results were as follows:
1st - Layton
2nd - Newton
3rd - Clifton
4th - Marton
Congratulations to everyone!

Please Remember….
Water bottles - This will come home each night to be cleaned and re-filled. Please ensure your child brings their’s each day especially now it is hotter as we do not have any spares in class.
Earrings - please ensure these are only small gold/silver studs as stated in the uniform policy. Please also make sure earrings are removed at home before PE on Tuesday and Friday. Children wearing them will not be able to take part in PE.
Nail Varnish - please ensure any nail varnish is removed for the pupils come into class. It should not be worn at school.
In this hot weather the children should come to school wearing sun cream, have a hat with them and have their water bottle each day. Please note the message sent during the week stating that children must wear shoes, and not sandals, to school for safety reasons. Many thanks.
Have a lovely weekend,
Mr Whetnall, Mrs Bowdell and Mrs Hall
