Good afternoon everyone,
This week we have been thinking about God’s kingdom. We have learned about refugees, who needed to escape their own homes due to violence and war. We linked this to the stories of Abraham, who needed to leave his home; and Moses, who led the Israelites through the desert.
We explored the Our Father and thought more deeply about its meaning. We discussed how this is the prayer that Jesus taught to His disciples and one we can still say today.
This week was also Arts Week. Across school, each class undertook an arts-based project. In year 2, we took on drama through an exploration of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. We selected five key scenes, discussed what was happening and acted out key parts from these scenes in different roles. The children have loved exploring language they have never come across before - we particularly enjoyed the sword fighting scenes!
English - Our English lessons focused on drama through our study of Romeo and Juliet.
Maths - In Maths we finished our fractions unit and have begun to explore measurement. We used non-standard measures and also looked at using centimetres and metres to measure length and height.
Science - We carried out an investigation to see which material was the best at absorbing water. We learned that sponges are excellent!
RE - In RE, we revisit scripture to learn how the Holy Spirit supports and nourishes us.
PE - Our PE was focused on Sports Day practice.
Computing - We created flipbooks to explore motion in stop motion animations.
Please continue to practise counting in 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s and 10s and the Year 1 and 2 common exception words.
Times Tables
Please practise the related division facts for the four times table. For example if we know 6 x 4 = 24 then we know that both 24 divided by 4 = 6 and 24 divided by 6 = 4.
Reading/RE
Reading comprehension
Maths
Estimating and measuring objects worksheet.

Year 2 PE lessons will take place on Wednesday and Friday. Please come to school in PE kit on these days.
Water bottles - all the children were given a new school bottle. This will come home each night to be cleaned and re-filled. Please only use the school bottles and ensure your child brings theirs each day. Lost water bottles can be replaced at the school office, but I am afraid you will have to pay for those. Year 2 have green tops.
I will not be in class on a Thursday afternoon, as it is my release time. This will be covered by Mrs Bowdell and Miss Andrew and is also when the children will have Music with Mrs Watson.
Party Invitations - I am afraid that Mrs Bowdell and I will not be able to give out party invitations in class. Please do not send your child into class with them for them to give out - it creates upset and fuss about something that takes place outside of school.Thank-you for your understanding with this matter.
Key Rings - please do not put key rings onto your child’s school bag, it creates fuss in class and then upset if they are lost.
School bags - please continue to use the red book bag that your child was given in Reception, we don’t not have the room to store large bags. Many thanks for your help with this matter.
