This week we have continued to focus on the story of Creation and that each of us is made in the image of the Lord. We have begun to think about God’s love for us and know that He loves us because…….just because. There are no conditions, there are no exceptions, we are ALL loved by God.
English - this week we have been working on the set 2 RWI sounds and have been working on holding a sentence in our head and then independently writing it down. We are working on the skills of using a capital letter, finger spaces between our words and using full stops. The facts that the children all writ a rehearsed sentences is because they have SO much else to think about!
Maths - this week we have been working on how to record a number as a digit, a word, as a picture…multiply ways of showing the same information.
RE - we have continued our new topic on Creation by looking at all the ways God has shown through the Creation story how He loves us. This week we have made thank-you cards for God.
History - we have continued on topic on Our History by investigating our memories. Thank-you all so much for sending in photographs for the children to share. We have a great afternoon listening to each other recall a special memory.
Science - this week we learnt all about our senses and the body parts that we use when suing our senses. The children went on a senses walk around the school grounds to find out what they could feel, see, hear and feel.
Art - this week the children investigated how to make swirls with their paint brush and create a piece of Art work that mirrors the story they heard.
Many congratulations to this week’s winners…..
Golden Award - Patrick for demonstrating beautiful manners in class each and every day and thinking of others before himself. Patrick shows great respect to those around him.
Maths Award - Maya for super work representing number by showing the number 8 as double 4 in her recording work! Great Maths thinking.
Writing Award - Seb for holding a sentence in his head and accurately writing it down by himself. This uses a lot of skills all at the same time -very well done!
To support our History topic on Our Family could I please ask you to send in a picture of your child with their family for our display board. I know it is tricky to get a picture of everyone, but if you have one and our happy to share, please send one into school. We will ensure you get these pictures back. If you don’t have a hard copy you can email one to me at year1@our-lady.blackpool.sch.uk Thank-you
(Many thanks to those of you who have already done this - it is not too late if you haven’t!)
General pieces of information
PE will be on Monday and Friday so please send the children into class in the PE kits on those days. No earrings can be worn for PE so please ensure that they are taken out at home.
Trainers - if your children is wearing trainers with laces for PE they must be able to tie them by themselves. This is a health and safety issue - please ensure your child can tie their laces before sending them in lace-up trainers.
Water bottles - all the children were given a new school bottle this week. This will come home each night to be cleaned and re-filled. Please only use the school bottles and ensure your child brings theirs each day. Lost water bottles can be replaced at the school office, but I am afraid you will have to pay for those. Year 1 have orange tops.
I will not be in class on a Thursday afternoon, as it is my release time. This will be covered by Mrs Debowska and Mrs McCooey and is also when the children will have Music with Mrs Watson.
Party Invitations - I am afraid that Mrs Debowska and I will not be able to give out party invitations in class. Please do not send your child into class with them for them to give out - it creates upset and fuss about something that takes place outside of school.Thank-you for your understanding with this matter.
Key Rings - please do not put key rings onto your child’s school bag, it create fuss in class and then upset if they are lost.
School bag - please continue to use the red book bag that your child was given in Reception, we don not have the room to store large bags. Many thanks for your help with this matter.
Homework Expectations - please see the Homework page for what I expect the children to do at home…..don’t worry, it’s mainly just reading!! HOMEWORK EXPECTATIONS - YEAR 1 — Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Primary School (squarespace.com)
