Well back to the Summer Term! I hope you have all had a Happy and Holy Easter. It is lovely to see the children so eager and keen to get back to work - it has been such a long time since I have seen them. Our Jesuit focus this term will be to be compassionate and loving as we work to be disciples of Christ.
English - we have continued on with our RWI lessons. During these sessions we all focus on phonics, reading, spelling and sentence development. We have also been working on our pre-cursive handwriting in which we focus on how to write our letters, starting on the line. We are continuing to work hard on our common exception words, reading them in class every day!
Maths - this week we have been working on subtraction, firstly by subtracting ones and then subtracting tens, by subtracting the tens first and then the ones. We have learnt that if you subtract 10 from a two-digit number then the ones number does not change! This is helping us with our knowledge of number and to subtract mentally. We have used number lines and ten frames to help us with our work - so that we can SEE the number.
RE - this week has been all about the Resurrection of Jesus and how the disciples reacted to this news. We have focused on Thomas and the fact that he found it hard to believe until he has seen with his own eyes.
Art - this week the children have started their Sculpture Unit focusing in on the work of Andy Goldsworthy.
Science - this week we started on new unit all about Plants by focusing on the parts of a plant and wild and garden planets. We also took a good luck at our potato plants which are coming along well.
Topic - this week we just had to finish a piece of History work left over from last term on the life of Queen Elizabeth II. Now that we have collected our facts and made our fact file, next week we will start our new Geography unit on the capital cities of the UK.
Many congratulations to this weeks winners……
Golden Award - Antonia for being a good friend and demonstrating a caring nature to those around her.
