Welcome to Year 1! I hope you have all had a wonderful summer and are ready for the new term. Just thought I would share a few pieces of information to get us started and then next week I will post an update of the learning that week and celebrate our award winners too. Please check out the website each Friday after school for regular updates, the learning from that week and photographs of the children hard at work!
We have had a great week; it has been lovely to getting to know the children and for them to get use to the new routine, new class and new teachers. This half term we will be focus on our school values of Care, Learn and Respect - what these mean to us and what they look like in Our Lady’s school. We have a great discussion around these three words in class this week.
(No photos this week as we need to update the Year 1 photo permission forms with you - these will be sent home shortly. Please take the time to fill these in and return these to school. Many thanks.)
First of all we should start by celebrating our first Award winners in Year 1…..
We have been very impressed with all of the children this week and how well they have settled, but these are the ones we are celebrating this week…..
Golden Award - Jamie for being a super role model in Year 1 and showing excellent behaviour for learning.
Writing Award - Matilda for beautiful handwriting and an making an excellent start with Year’s pre-cursive handwriting.
Maths Award - Fionn for super grouping work and great explanations of the groupings
General pieces of information
PE will be on Monday and Friday so please send the children into class in the PE kits on those days. No earrings can be worn for PE so please ensure that they are taken out at home.
Water bottles - all the children were given a new school bottle today. This will come home each night to be cleaned and re-filled. Please only use the school bottles and ensure your child brings theirs each day. Lost water bottles can be replaced at the school office, but I am afraid you will have to pay for those. Year 1 have green tops.
I will not be in class on a Thursday afternoon, as it is my release time. This will be covered by Mrs Veasey and Miss Sanderson and is also when the children will have Music with Miss Hope
Party Invitations - I am afraid that Mrs Veasey and I will not be able to give out party invitations in class. Please do not send your child into class with them for them to give out - it creates upset and fuss about something that takes place outside of school.Thank-you for your understanding with this matter.
Key Rings - please do not put key rings onto your child’s school bag, it create fuss in class and then upset if they are lost.
Homework Expectations - please see the Homework page for what I expect the children to do at home…..don’t worry, it’s mainly just reading!! Year 1 News letterYear 1 Homework Expectations - Autumn — Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Primary School (squarespace.com)
This half term our main focus is ourselves and our family, in order to support this work we like to make a ‘family tree’ of all our Year 1 families. Please could I ask you to send in a family picture of our display board. This could just be the people in our household, or your wider family, which ever is easiest for you. Please ensure your child’s name is on the picture and we will ensure it is returned to you during the year. Alternatively, you could email me a picture at the Year 1 email address and I can print it out in school. Many thanks.
The children have settled in really after the holidays and I know that we are going to have a great year. If you have any questions, please just ask. You can catch either me or Mrs Veasey at the gate or just email using year1@our-lady.blackpool.sch.uk
Many thanks
Mrs Hollinghurst, Mrs Veasey and Miss Sanderson
