We have had another great week in Year 1 - the children are all working very hard. This week we have spent a lot of time thinking about the disciples and how they would have felt after everything that they had seen. We have also thought about how we can show that we are disciples of Jesus through our actions and our words. The children have all worked hard to show that they are true disciples of the Lord.
This week we have been learning….
English - this week we have continued with our animals focus through the story ‘Dear Greenpeace’. through the story we have looked at endangered animals and have written our won stories imagining that we found an endangered animal in our garden, just like the girl in the story. We have also worked on the spelling on our Common Exception words, our handwriting and phonic skills.
Maths - we have continued to work on numbers up to 50, looking at tens and ones. We have done this through bead strings, ten frames, part part whole models and base ten. We have examined how these things are all the same - but different!
RE - this week we have looked at the story of the Resurrection through the eyes of the disciples. We have discussed how they must have felt when Jesus was put to death and the joy and uncertainty they must have felt when He came back to them.
Science - this week we have continued to think about plants and what they need to grow. We have also looked at a wild plant and how they are self spreading and grown where their seeds are dropped. The children also went on a walk around school to see what wild plants they could find growing in our grounds.
History - Wednesday 21st was our Queen’s birthday - so as less as finding out some more facts about her and recording these facts, we also made Her Majesty some birthday cards!
Art - we love our Fun Thursday afternoons!! This week we created our own Andy Goldsworthy style pieces of art….see pictures at the end of the blog to see how they turned out!
We are proud of all of the children this week, but these are the pupils we have chosen to celebrate…
Golden Award - Laura for always being ready to work and listen and always doing her best
Writing Award - Leo trying hard with pre-cursive handwriting and improving the presentation of his work
Maths Award - Ellenie for super tens and ones work with numbers up to 20
Thank-you so much for continuing to respect Social Distancing measures at drop off and pick up times and wearing your masks. These measures are so important to ensure everyone’s safety at school and to ensure that our Year 1 bubble remains open to all. Can I please stress the importance of the one way system at pick up time - IN on the Common Edge Road entrance and OUT down the drive onto Thornhhill Close. Please can you also ensure that your child stands with you at drop of time in the morning and is not running around the car park and in between the parked cars. Many thanks.
Things to remember……
PE continues to be on Monday and Friday - no earrings on these days please
Bring your school water bottle each day
Reading books will be changed on your child’s reading day - we will only be able to send home a basket book each week - Guided Reading books will remain in school. We still have to quarantine books for 72 hours before they are sent home to anyone else. This limits the number of books we have to send home. Please sign your child’s reading record when they read at home.
Please keep your child at home if they are unwell - we must all play our part to keep the bubble safe.
School closes at 1.15pm for all children on Friday’s.
And finally, have a lovely weekend, stay safe…..Mrs Hollinghurst, Mrs Veasey and Miss Collins
