He is Risen: The Resurrection in Matthew 28
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the foundation of the Christian faith. Without the resurrection, the belief in God's saving grace and mercy through Jesus is void. When Jesus rose from the dead, he proved his divinity as the Son of God and his works of atonement, redemption, reconciliation, and salvation. The resurrection was a real, physical raising of Jesus’ body from the dead.
This week we have been learning……
We have had a lovely Holy week in Year 1 where we have really focused on the events that lead up to Jesus’ death and then Resurrection. The children have listened carefully to the story and thought about the actions of Jesus’ friends and how they think they would have behaved. We have watched Miss Haggerty’s daily reflections and applied these teachings to our own work. I have been really impressed with how hard the children have worked this week and how they have thought about Jesus and how they can follow Him.
English - we have had a grammar focus this week and we have concentrated on verbs with ‘ing’ and ‘ed’ endings. The children have used these words in their own sentences, along with focusing on their handwriting, spelling and full spots and capital letters.
Maths - this week we have worked on using the comparison signs, greater than less, than and equal to. We have also worked on our number bonds to 10 and 20 and applied our Mental Maths skills to our written Maths work.
Yesterday, the children brought home their runner bean plants that we planted during lockdown. Some of these plants have been really successful and others less so! If your child has brought home a plant, then just keep it inside for a little longer, although I know one or two of them need a stake in them now as they have got so big they need something to wrap around. Just need to protect them from the frost so possibly a little too early to plant outside just yet. I hope the others grow over Easter! We have put in new seeds, so fingers crossed!! they are French Runner beans…..and Zachary’s was definitely the tallest!!
Thank-you so much for keeping to social distancing rules and continuing to wear face coverings on school grounds. It is so important that we all keep to these rules, particularly as rules start to relax a little. Please follow the rules over the holidays to help keep us all safe when school returns. I hop you enjoy a little time with family or friends in groups of 6. I know I am looking forward to seeing my parents in their garden….rather than standing on the street!! Fingers crossed so some dry weather…too much to hope this warm weather will hold.
This week’s awards winners are….
Golden Award - Zachary for being a true disciple of Christ during Holy Week
Writing Award - Alexander for writing independently this week in RE and English
Maths Award - Elsie for using her number line successfully to answer addition and subtraction questions
Thank-you so much for all your support this term. It has been a challenging one in more ways than one and we are all ready for a break. I truly hope you and your families have a lovely, peaceful and joyous Easter holidays. The children have worked so hard and we are all extremely proud of them. Well done Year 1!
And finally…….we wish you all a Happy and Holy Easter. Mrs Hollinghurst, Mrs Veasey and Miss Collins
A few pictures of our week…enjoying the sunshine!! (Check out our Stations of the Cross. These will be placed in Church on Thursday - the children have worked very hard on these with Mrs Veasey. I think they look wonderful.)
